I play as much as possible though im not too great as yet (3rd game) still learning
I usually play until I either get kicked off the comp by parents or I feel like it is getting a bit tedious

I play 1 hour 30 minutes very two days....man I have a busy life now with University, work and helping my granny.

Welcome, Raist_SOL! Hang around here too much and we'll have you pulling Civ all-nighters.

The fact that I do play for so long at a stretch is the reason why I don't have game sounds on. Years (nay decades) ago I played games on ColecoVision for hours on end and had trouble sleeping because I couldn't get the game music out of my head. I don't even know what the music/sounds are for C3C.

have u ever seen the cows move?

Nope, but there's been a couple times I could have sworn the whales (snoopy's) started grinning at me.

I used to play non-stop everyday but do the my ongoing weight problems and the fact that I have to be in good shape for the Army in a year, I had to cut down to about 2 hrs a day. I cheat a lot though...

This could be useful for a "1000 ways to know you've played CIV3 too much" thread.

I used to play CIV1 for up to 14 hours, now it is impossible for me to keep the pace due to several reasons (work, sleep, wife, etc.), but I stop playing when I start to get confused about if I am playing CIV3 or street fighter, I mean, when I start punching everything and throwing nukes at everyone. Then I know the little guy inside my head realized that my patience and concentration are over. This usually happens after 6-7 hours. I also stop when external factors (wife) makes impossible to keep playing.

Also when I go to sleep I see the settlers moving... and at work when I want to take a break... yes, I think of the moves I will be making when I get home.

lol - I've been playing with graphics moding a lot, so my dreams have begun to feature that blank purple/pink background used to represent transparent areas in civ graphics. Things that should be clear, like windows or clear water in lakes, are solid purple/pink (transparent!). Pretty sure that means I've spent waay too much time focused on the game graphics :crazyeye:

As long as there is not a pink elephant :smoke: ;)

Another clue is that we're all here.

Depends a bit. Usually I play for a couple of hours, while cruising a bit on the net and listening to some music (Haydn, Cannabich, Beck - Franz Ignatz that is, not Jeff.). Sometimes on Sunday I will let my hair out and sit for 4 hours. But there is always the only 5 minutes more danger lurking around...

Only two persons took 1 :( - perehaps I should have written feng-shui consultant for city placing instead of astrologist :D

So, the result is quiet what I´ve expected - most people get at some point frustrated by bad chances, a lot play the way I do (perehaps a bit stretching and situps every 20 min would also be a good to stay concentrated - bonus: sixpack til next summer :D )

And to some people I must say: guys, you´re really addicts- keep up the good work :goodjob: (or take some holidays, which would surely be better in long terms :D )

I din't vote at all, because none of those options apply to me.

Generally speaking, my stint at the computer is 4-6 hours, but that includes breaks to come here. :)

Since nearly all of my play is in SG's, I play until I'm done. If I have two modern war sets to deal with in a night (3+ hours each), then so be it. Conversely, If I have one set very early in a game, I may only play for 20 or 30 min.

Generally I play somewhere in the middle.

I'll play for 1 to 2 hours and then stop. I usually always finish my games even if they take forever because I normally play with 8 civilizations on a huge map. A game like that takes 10 to 16 hours.

I play like 3-6 hours... I stop... when....

1. Parents complaint about the PC is burning
2. Need to eat (Really REALLY bad)
3. Need to sleep (Even more BAD)

I also stop playing when Aztecs are being annoing and start attacking me ate 500 AD... God Damn Montezuma.

nonononononononononono! how are you going to take a break when these guys are fighting inside your computer! how could U wait 20 min to see if your knight is finally going to stand the swordsmen attack, or to see the effects of the forbidden palace, or to reconquer friggin Hamburg that has just flipped back to Germany?

It is only when you can no longer remember which is your capitol when you are able to go back to bed and rest to prepare for the next day.

You mean you can stop?

I usually play until my girlfriend starts:
- pestering me
- poking me with a stick
- yells at me
- screams, yells, and pokes me with a stick
- starts packing her clothing (to move out)
- kicks my computer causing a harddrive crash (I was NOT happy with this one)
- invites me to bed :D

These occur at 30 minute intervals on average and are met with "Honey, just one more turn."

I normally play for about 2 hours, and then "just 1 more turn" which seems to go for at least another 4 hours...
If I turned off "always wait at end of turn" I guess I would play until the end (always play huge maps too)
Hearing the sound of a record scratching around at the end gets me up quickly though, providing a good oportunity to flee from Civ ;)
