Urgh. I've just checked my journey planner, and as inaccurate as it may be, I'm still probably looking at 1 hour 40 minutues to get to work in the new year, and as it's to a school, I'll be leaving pretty early in the morning. However, as much as I'm grumbling, I've heard of commuters with a total of 4 or even 6 hours of travelling in a day. So, is my 3 hours or so not much? Are any of you out there sacrificing so much of your own time to get to work, and is it worth it?

Well, my commute is OK. :) I drive 22 miles, and it takes me about 32 to 35 minutes, depending on traffic. Home in the evening usually takes a bit longer - about 40 minutes. All this pales in comparison to my last job, where I had to drive about 3 minutes.... or a twenty minute walk.

My girlfriend was working with a woman who commutes from the nort-norfolk coast to London and back each day - out at about 5:30 AM to get the train to norwich, then another to london. Across london by tube to get to work by about 8:30 am. Leaves at 5:30 pm and gets home about 9:00 PM.

But London pay makes it affordable!

A great opportunity for smugness - my flat is just around the corner from my office. A five minute walk - I dont even get that wet if it's raining! :)

15 minutes driving, an hour by subway - thank you Washington, DC for hiring correspondance-school-trained civil engineers!

Used to take about an hour - took a local area bus out to the nearest Mass Rapid Transit station, then a quick trip to the business zone of downtown Singapore. The crowds were unbelievable.

4h totally. The actual travelling takes about 3h, but since I'm going to school I have a fixed starting time. The only reason it's all right is that I have only 6h at school 4 days a week. So I'm not gone from home much more than those in my hometown:)

Since I work from my home office on the bottom level of my townhouse, my commute only depends on whether I stop in the kitchen for a cup of coffee on my way downstairs....

I HATE COMMUTING!!!!!!

You did´nt answer the question, how long does it take;)

about 45 seconds, Yoda...maybe a minute and a half if I stop for coffee....

About 30-40 minutes each way. I prefer to walk, but during the winter I use the busses.

From my old place (as of November):
30 minutes walk
20 minutes streetcar/subway
10 minutes by cab

From my temporary home:
40 minutes walk
15 minutes car/cab
15 minutes subway plus 10 minutes walk to and from stations

From my new apartment (which used to be my old apartment)
6 minutes by foot
4 minutes by cab
15 minutes by subway

Which is the way it should be.

I live in the city and work in suburbia. The drive itself is about 60km, but fortunately since I am opposing traffic I only have to suffer through about 40 minutes of Toronto drivers.

On the bus it is one hour going and 1hr 30min coming home, and it is the same route. If I drive it takes 20min there, 20min back. I hate the bus, except for the company.

10 minutes unless I am toodleing along checking out the scenery. in a few weeks I will be doing the 1 1/2 hour one way. not much toodleing, but lots of scenery.
