Seems like an awful lot of versions of Civ 3 available. I've got Civ 3 Game of the Year. But there seems to be quite a few others. I've been trying to find a download to fix mine to have a Fortify all / Wake All option. Anyone know where I can find that? And how many versions of Civ 3 is there anyway?:crazyeye:

More likely Game of the Year. The version number is shown in the bottom left corner of the main menu screen when you launch it - the screen with the Civ3 tower on it. It will probably be something like version 1.14. Whatever it is, you can upgrade it to the latest version 1.29b2 using the updater that's linked in my signature. That will allow you to move/wake/fortify all ...

There were several versions of that product, which was released by MacSoft. It is known fondly as 'Vanilla' aroud these forums as it was the plain original Civ3 product. Version 1.21g was the last official update for it from MacSoft, but we were kindly provided with the "beta" version 1.29b2 so that we could share files with PC players. It's very stable, and recommended.

Beyond vanilla we now have Play the World version 1.27 and Conquests version 1.22 in the new Civ 3 Complete product from Aspyr. It includes most of the features of the original product, plus the PC expansion packs that have been released since. It is only really short of an editor.

Not sure if this counts as piracy, but is there anyway we can download an editor? If this is illegal, please delete this topic.

PS: I own the original Civ3 Mac release as well, so can I just install the editor from that and run it off of information from Complete? Or would that cause it to crash?

Yes, there is a map editor. The catch is it only works with version 1.21(g?) of vanilla Civ (there have been some changes in the file format and feature changes since this version).

Try this link. If that doesn't work, try MacGameFiles, or maybe someone else like AlanH knows where the active link is nowadays.

Oh, and yes, the Civ III info in Complete wouldn't work. You need the 1.21g update (not to be confused with 1.29 or any other number...) but the positive thing is your scenarios will be forwards-compatible. What you might end up doing is having a folder with just the Civ information for the editor and having that separate from the Complete folder.

If you get stuck, browse the Mac forum here. Chances are we've all asked the same questions before.

I've got version 1.21g. So which installer do I need? Yesterday I loaded all of them and it really messed up some parts. Enough so that I decided to reinstall.

So I was wrong about your version, but there's only one link called Civ3_1.29b2_Updater in my signature. Which other ones did you try? :confused:

I posted a thread on how to use the editor for pc on your mac (using VPC), you might want to check it out.

Full GOTM installer
GOTM 23 Full installer
GOTM 24 Basic incremental installer
GOTM 24 Enhanced incremental installer
GOTM 25 incremental installer

Try this one. You'll have to right /control click the link and tell your browser to download the linked file. If you left click it you'll get a page full of gobledegook.

It downloads fine here. What happened when you tried?

More specifically,

with the control click,I get;

"The document "archive.sitx" could not be opened, because the application program that created it could not be found." It does not unzip.

w/o the control click;

It starts to unzip then; "An error has occured while expanding the "archive.sitx(format error)."

then

"Error #17540"

Besides that will I be on my 11th. post forever? I notice your at 9670 still too.

Do you have a recent copy of Stuffit Expander (well as recent as it gets for OS 9) ?

SITX files should expand in Stuffit Expander on OS 9, though maybe you'll have to drop the file on Stuffit, or open the file from within Stuffit.

So, at great expense to my aging brain cells I started up Classic on my system - probably the first time that's happened for two or three years :eek: I used an ancient copy of DropStuff to create a .SIT file instead, and here it is. If this doesn't work for you then I'm not sure where we go next. Floppy disks and carrier pigeons, anyone?

BTW Post counts increment on all your posts. When you post your next one all your posts will show 13.
