I play on Regent level, and I was wondering, how many victories do you think I would need to proceed to Monarch?

Probably not more than 3-4. The jump from Regent to Monarch isn't nearly as large as the one from Monarch to Emperor. Don't forget that by tinkering with map settings and civ, you can ease the transition. For example, if you're a warmonger, you could play some Monarch games on archipelago maps using an agri civ like the Iros (powerful UU) or maybe the Dutch (using seafaring to help establishing contacts & trade).

I actually jumped from cheiften to monarch. I was fooled by the editor in the very early vanila version only mentioning how many civs are born content. Then I put C3C. Now I play monarch.

I haven't a clue about your playstyle, so I don't know CivRulesAll. Really, I think them very similar. There really exists a small difference between Regent and Monarch. The jump from Monarch to Emperor comes as a bit bigger. The gap between Emperor and Demi-God comes as even larger (it's mostly the free settler). There hardly exists a gap between Demi-God and Deity *compared* to other levels. The gap between Deity and Sid can come as quite large, especially in terms of tech cost.

Regent->Monarch? Yeah i would say same as others. 3-6. Depends on how quick do you learn stuff and how long do you want to experiment. Maybe you want to try many civs before continiuing further and then find yourself jumping from Regent to Monarch and then less games for Emeperor, then it would be otherwise. All depends. Easier level = Less pressure = more space to experiment. Higher level = higher challange and less space to try out different things.

Like Gamemaster77, I went from Chieftain to Monarch in my solo games. If you can win on Regent, then play Monarch next time.

If you are careful, you still beat the AI without any problem.

I stayed at Warlord quite a while trying different things out. When I got a victory at under 200 turns, I moved up to Regent. But it was so similar to Warlord, I moved up to Monarch after a single game. When I got a Monarch victory in 276 turns, I moved up to Emperor. That was the biggest jump yet & I certainly haven't gotten a handle on it as yet. And from an abortive Monarch game where an AI had to have gotten 1, probably 2, free settlers from huts, I'm pretty sure I'm not ready for any of the more advanced levels.

I played 1 game at Chieftain, then 1 at Warlord, then 2 at Regent (1 military VC, 1 peaceful). I think I played two at Monarch, which were noticably tougher, but still not too bad, and then moved up to Emporer, where I played 5 or 6 games. I now consider myself comfortable at Emp, but the first game or two were tough going at first. I'm attempting my first Demi-God game, and it's hard to catch up when the AI starts with two settlers. Wish me luck.

Good luck, Professor. Demigod requires a good to excellent starting location. I recommend a power tribe to start with too, someone with good traits and a useful UU.

Thanks, Overseer. I'm playing with the Maya, and have already given up on a couple of so-so starts. We'll see how it goes.
