I've seen a lot of references to bribing the AI into war, but I've never had enough cash on hand to make it happen, I suppose. Every time I've tried, it's failed.

How much does the AI take to consider going to war with a neighbor?

I've bribed AI into war twice.

Once, they didn't like the other AI and I payed them 2 horses and spices.

The other time, I don't think they had anything against them, and I payed them 500 gold.

I think it always depends on what the AI needs, how they feel about you, and how they feel about the person you want them to go to war against.

If the civs have been at war recently its pretty easy to bribe em back into war. Once bribed the Ottomans only 120 gold to take out their former enemy in the industrial era. It really helps being able to split your enemies forces and give em 2 front to fight in, given that the two civs border one another. Granted the ai is garbage with their soldiers but still.

It depends on the civ. Very aggressive civs like Germany, Greece, Aztecs or France can be easy to bribe, particularly if they have already denounced the civ you want them to war with. It can take as little as 90 gold sometimes.

mongolia went to war with germany for 1 iron and 200 gold

I've given 30 gold to warmongerers to declare war. A bit harder for civs that are more peaceful.

Guess there is a hidden scale which must increase to a certain value, then the civ will declare war. If the civ is alrdy very high up the scale, then they are bribed very easily into war.

I got Greece to go to war with the Iroquois for hmm.. 140 gold, 5 each of horse, iron and uhm.. something, else and that was about it.
Greece was friendly to me

It varies depending on the civ attitude toward you, whether they are a war makers, do they have a trade deal with the other civ, do they have common boarders, have they been at war or denounced them, have they been at war with you, and relative score.

The cheapest I have bribe someone for was 2 horses and 1 iron. The most expensive 3000 Gold. And some you can't move.

If they are allied and have denounced or been at war with someone OR sent you a message that "I'll glad someone else agrees with me about so and so" after you denounce so and so - its usually cheap.

As others have alluded to, it's usually pretty cheap. Occasionally, you'll have to bend over backwards to start a war, but it's usually a handful of gold, and maybe some strategic resources you don't even need. With how cheap it is, it's almost always worth it to constantly keep things crazy by bribing everyone you can into war.
