17 going on 18 and play as much as i can afford to ignore my home work. btw henrycccc have some respect and dignity, you should be still running around playing army and making tree houses, not inside playing cIV and having a go at your elders

I'm 48 and started playing civ2 a lot of years ago. My partner plays as well (at 41) and we're now in the middle of a hot seat game.

Though I'm not really 'ancient'..... the poll parameters need changing.

I am 28 and have been playing Civ since the day it came out. So that's about half of my life!

Allow me to laugh at your infantile comment!

Really, let the kid go already. He said he's sorry.

25 - wife, no kids. Gaming keeps me sane when on boring assingments.

I'm 27. Been playing Civ since the first version on the Amiga back in the days. Jeeez... I wonder how much time of my life I have spent playing Civ in one form or the other (You gotta count CTP 1+2 in there as well).. I'm pretty sure it amounts to a percent or two of my total lifespan :)

Pretty mcu the same here. I haven't played CTP that much, but if you count in Alpha Centauri I will get close to about 2% too. Especially Civ2 has cost me months of my life. And it has literally changed my life. The fact that I studied history had a lot to do with my addiction for Civ.

I fit into both 18-30 and 30-40 age ranges so I decided to bolster the latter group. :) I've been a gamer since the ZX81 days although I got into TBS/Civ-like games relatively recently, having played CtP1&2, Civ3, SMAC and Civ4 but not the original two. I would love to spend more time on Civ4, but I'm married now ... :D

32 here. Not playing civ at the moment 'cos I'm researching and lecturing physics, raising kids, helping wife 'n stuff ;)

nearly 40, so close enough to "ancient".
playing civ since 1992 - i got my mom to import it from britain for me.

so, does anyone remember the ZX81? ;)

42 here, so nicely in the 'ancient' zone. :)

And never mind the ZX81, I had a self built ZX-80 and used to programme games on it that were black and white and had no moving graphics! And you try telling the kids of today that (hello henryccc! ;) ), and they won't believe you.

As others have said, gaming is much easier, relatively far cheaper, more fun and more appreciated when you're older and have all sorts of other responsibilites - some of us even have a life! :p

Oops, I have to admit I didn't read through the whole thread before I wrote my post...

Anyways, the reason why I play is mainly 'cause I find it very relaxing. When I play my brain is completely reset. It's a great way to escape the everyday worries and routines. I would play a hell of a lot more if the missus didn't mind, but she's not exactly in to playing computer games.

Hang on a sec - I played the original Civ first time around (much more Civ 2 and Colonization though) and I'm "only" 21. I feel about 42 sometimes though :) Incidentally, my dad plays Civ too.

I'm 42, married and have 3 kids. I don't in any way feel ancient but I do feel older. My kids keep me young.

Ancient? You want ancient? When I learned to program computers, punch cards were the way you submitted soruce code and the Moon was unvisited by humans. :-D But I'm not the oldest person here.

Oh, and henry... verbum sap.: maybe, just maybe, some of us are doing things with our finances that we aren't telling you about. *nodnod* Could be. ;-)

Meffy,

I still remeber getting our first terminal, so we didn't have to use the key-punch!

People like us just have to live with the fact that the group on this forum think of us as ancient.

We know better. :)

Age 47, wife, three kids, dog, mortgage. Engineer and ex-Army officer. Between yardwork, housework, helping the kids with their homework, and spending some quality time with my bride ..... I NEED TO ESCAPE INTO A GAME!!!!!!!!! And you older guys know what I mean.

Lately I have been dividing my game time, mostly after 9:00 PM when wife and kids are asleep, between Civ IV, Rome:Total War Barbarian Invasion, and I even find some time for Neverwinter Nights.

All together about 15-20 hours a week.

hey I am 53 - used drugs heavily from 16-41, from 41 onwards I have been reconstructing my life - as for games? I find that nuking electronic peoples is more satisfying and less illegal than actually doing real violence. I also remember IBM cards(dropped a full card tray down steps - in a SSN sort - and had to resort them), and a pristine moon. I also remember the duck&cover of the 50's and the riots and assassinations of the 60's...disco(yuck), and the birth of PC's. I believe that it was Henryccc that said people like me should get a life. Well, I've had a full one defeats, victories, loves, hates, failure, redemption. I took a junkie and made him a man - I earned my Civ 4. You will too, given time.

I am one year shy of a quarter-century. I've been playing Civ since Civ1 was released. I learned to read and write on computers when I was 3/4-ish (no joke). And have been gaming for a good 20 years of my life.

I AM the person CivAnon warned you about.

Anything over 40 is ancient? In my day, whippersnappers...
