How To Add Leaderheads

I have a small problem, and I'm unsure what is wrong.

I am trying to use RFRE's mod to create a Rome scenario from 753BC. In changing certain things, I've needed to change the leaderheads.

When I play the game, the leaderheads, at least ones that aren't CIV3 default ones, all are black screens. The picture ones work, but the flc ones only come up with just a black screen.

I have checked the Civilopedia, the PediaIcons, and the CIVEditor's location for these FLCs, and double checked to ensure they are correct. All I still get are black screens. I came here and followed to the letter your instructions (to the intent, not like another person said would give a mistake if followed to the letter), and it still happens.

I checked and made sure with RFRE's mod, their's works fine, as it should, but mine do not.

Thanks for help.

Hmm, weird problem... Have you tried redownloading? You may have gotten a corrupt file.

See, that's the weird thing. In making the mod, I just copied the entire directory of RFRE into my new mod directory, so the files that are there should be the same files that the makes of RFRE used, and thus they should work. It is this that makes this problem so weird. I have, last night, made even a triple check, and yet nothing seems to be wrong.

So I don't know.

EDIT

Is it possible that having two or more of the leaderheads as the same file could cause such a problem? I have a few that are the same file, because their unique race's all were Greek descent, so I used one that was Greek. I checked and put every civ's servus unit in my territory and contacted each of them to see which were working and which were not. Most didn't, but after a while, the game just has an error occur, and crashes the game.

It just gets weirder and weirder.

Maybe that could be the issue. Try renaming the ones which are the same, and edit the files so that they match with the renamed ones.

Other than that, I do not really know =(

Well now I know something weird is going on. I tried the multiple leaderhead issue, and that didn't make any difference. Here's where it gets weird. I check the human player box in the CIV3 editor for the ones that were blackscreening, and when I went to choose a player at the startup, they work. The FLC works just fine there, but when I enter the game, the screen is just black. Maybe I'll reinstall the game; see if that works...

At least, I know I entered them correctly, why they don't work in game, I don't know.

I have a question. If I am trying to reasign leaderheads for some of the mods (the RnR and Balancer Mods have the leaderheads all messed and mis-assigned), and also add the King David one, do I have to do any thing with the advisors files?

See what I am doing is trying to use some of the leaderhead arangements from Rhye's of Civilization mod into the RnR and BReloaded mods. The problem is I can't just copy and paste RoC Advisor files into the BR and RnR folders because it would just overwrite them and I'd lose them... even though the ARE different files with different kbs sizes. They just have the exact same names.

What should I do to accomplish my goal here?

Well let's just use the new Israel/Hebrew civ as and example. I tried to just add the new files with different names (DA files for King David; copied them from the RoC mod) and they went into the folders. I then copied the RoC predaicon.txt for the Hebrews from the Leader sections (1st section of the predaicon text) and pasted them into the same slots of the Balancer Reloaded Mod.

However when I started up the game, King David was still actually shown as King Murcillis of the Hittites. The words were right, but the picture was wrong. Then when I went into the game to check, in the foriegn advisor screen It shows an anonymis leader shadow where King David was supposed to be.

What might I be missing? Would just adding the new advisors file for the new animated leaderhead work, or do I need to renamed ALL of them and include all new files in the advisors folder to make it work?

Here's a link to a post with more detail of my situation...

Hmm, well, when replacing a leaderhead, I suggest to get rid of the files of the leader you want to replace, and then insert the new ones. Try redoing it by taking out every file you added, then readding.

I have a question, does this example mean that the leaderhead is only playable in scenario mode? I made that connection somehow, but I'm sure it's not like that. Once you switch leaderheads, it stays that leaderhead throughout the whole game, not just scenario modes, right?

Thanks D. I figured it out. It was that I had to open the biq file and change it under the specific civ tab from there to set the path to the leaderhead and that's all that was keeping it from working proeperly. It's working now.

Shogun, If you make a Scenerio and add the leaderhead files in there, then you will only see them in that specific scenerio. Each game scenerio (including the main standard epic mode) has it's own set of files and own directory to those files. So you can have 31 different civs and leaders in a scenerio that you don't have in the regular game. That's because all of it's files will be in a seperate folder and directory path.

You can get it so you completly replace a leader from the standard game all together so it shows up that way in every single game type you play. But that can be a sensative process because you risk altering some of the more important files, which might crash your game and force you to have to reinstall. It's much safer to just create a scenerio and do it that way. The other way you would have to rename the new files to the same as the originals and you might wind up deleting the originals by accident.
