How to eliminate the opening movie.

This is the opening movie for Civ 5. I renamed it by adding a 1 at the end of the name (US1) and the game starts fine without the movie.
Going to find that useless/pointless ESRB page next and will update if I can get rid of it also.

Open "UserSettings" and change:

SkipIntroVideo = 0

to

SkipIntroVideo = 1

It skips all the stuff, including the movie. You have to sit through a black screen while the game loads in the background, but it's better than sitting through the first few seconds of the movie each time.

I tried too renaming the file, after first update by steam it was there again. My solution? Launch Civ5 then go smoke a cig ;-)

uh huh...and where in the game is that option? I must have a different version since I see no such checkbox...

You can just press the Escape key though.
What many people don't realize is that while the movie is playing, the game is loading, and if you remove it you'll just be staring at a blank screen until you are in the game.

I first played this on my laptop and i had to wait until the movie was over to get in, but once i got home to my 4.1 GHz + SSD drive gaming rig, i just press esc and the menu shows up 2s later.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but both skipping the intro movie and getting rid of the legal fluff dialog afterward has been posted about ever since the game came out.

For the latter, go to steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\Assets\UI\FrontEnd and open FrontEnd.lua, the code in there that shows the legal stuff is apparently not working as intended (it never skips) but you can just remove it.
