How to go about things in game?

Folks,

Could you help me by checking if the city is well-built by the Indian Fast Worker. Some background information is that there are a total of 4 Fast Workers at this point when the screen shot was taken. They are not in the city because they've gone to Bombay, the second city:). They all are activated by the Build Improvements Automated manually in-game.

I'm doing an experiment to see the difference between using this function and micro-managing each of them.

Thanks!

Farms on plains tiles: not very good. Plus they built a cottage on a plains tile, when a riverside plains cottage would be better.

Don't automate workers.

Thanks!:)

I've circled a farm, is it connected by roads? Also, how do I check the "city radius" does it exist in the game?

Hi folks,

I want to go online and try a game or two with you people. Could you possibly tell me which patch I should download and install in order to get up to date for multiplaying?

I prefer keeping the patch on my disk drive for recovery purpose.:king:

No it's connected by the river, not that it matters since it hasn't got a resource.

You can check the city radius by double clicking the city.

EDIT: Patch 3.19, get it from the downloads section.

Hey Paradigm,

Many thanks for your support, really appreciate.

So let me understand it right, non-resource tiles need no roads? In that case, how food produced by farms transported to the city and other cities?

I double-clicked the city and was thrown into the city screen I believe. But there is no graphical representation which looks like a city radius, do I need to further click on something more?

Patch 3.19 for BTS I guess, what about Warlord and Civ4 in case I played them backward? BTW, is there any good playing Warlord or Civ4 still, I mean are there any features that Civ4 and Warlord have that supersedes BTS?

Food is transported metaphorically. There is no game mechanic for that so we don't need to worry about it. Roads are there to connect, cities for trade, to connect reources to your capital and to move troops around. That is all.

Well, BtS comes with most of the stuff Warlords came with, iirc. So, you should just play BtS and patch it up to date.

The tiles you can work are the ones with the pictures of :food:, :hammers:, and :commerce: on them:

There is an option "Show City Radius" I always have that box checked. But I never realized that it is not a circular representation. Thanks!

I have the original Civilization IV which comes with a very good manual, quite thick by today's standard. Then I bought the Civilization IV Complete (UK pack), after installation you'll have the following:

The trouble is where I might find the manuals for Warlord and Beyond the Sword, are there any PDF version out there for free download. I mean my Civilization IV Complete is a legal copy not a pirated version. I guess Warlord would be quite simple, but Beyond the Sword is a bit more complicated than the former so I need a manual.

Also, I used MagicDisk to create an ISO copy of the disc because I don't want to insert the disc every time I play it. I made the ISO copy, but when I started the game, it didn't recognize it. So I switched back to the physical disc, it then worked. Anyone knows any tools which I can create a virtual disc of the game that the can recognizes it?

If you update BtS to version 3.19 then you don't need the disk in the drive to play. It doesn't check for it anymore.

You should have built Delhi one tile down. The City Radius is 2 tiles every direction. So it forms a cross shape. Or a 5x5 square with the corners missing and the city in the center.

That's confirmed, it works!

But the patch doesn't take care of Warlord and vanilla Civ4 though. Both asked for the game dics. Do you happen to know the version of the patches for each of them?

So that's it, the city radius won't go beyond 5x5 is that right?

Work as many improved special tiles as possible. None of this pop 1 settler stuff while you still have wheat and iron to grow citizens onto to work.

Probably your best bet for improvement is to read over the basic mechanics first, than watch/read some walkthrough games to see how players approach the game. Once you get a feel for how/why things work you can develop your own style.

Learn 2 Read, he's testing the automated worker AI.

If you ask me, micro-manage worker bears not much difference from using the in-game automated worker function or vice-versa. But the former requires lot more attentions to details. It's alright if you've got say one to two cities but when you grow out to say five, then it's quite a nightmare to manage each one of them, besides, we're talking about making nearly the same decisions which are cottage, farm, mine, plantation and pasture. So I'll be more inclined to leaving it to the AI to do it for me. The only trouble of using the AI automated function would likely to be further improvement, I mean real improvement for instance, the same tile would have probably be installed a cottage before plantation is available. When plantation is readily available, would the AI automated worker be aware of the new technology and get rid of the cottage and make a plantation for that tile?

I do need to read some more information, you're right.

Hey folks, how many of you will purchase Civ 5? I watched it on YouTube and it looks quite promising in terms of graphics. But now tile becomes hexagon rather than a square, what you reckon?

By the way, it was the first time I delved into the folder of Civ4 and found the manuals of Civ4, Warlord and BTS...so silly of me that I asked the stupid questions where they can be found.....

I'm getting it because I'm lucky enough to have my birthday on the day it comes out. :D I think the hexagons will make you rethink strategies, and so will the one-unit-per-tile thing. I think it'll be really cool.

Looking at how the workers improved the capital at least 40 normal speed worker turns were completely wasted improving plains, pointless roads and resources you have no use for yet.
I wouldn't put too much stock in that test though, it looks like the workers haven't been given realistic extra cities or other things to consider. I wouldn't expect auto workers to be quite that awful, despite them being bad.
When plantation is readily available, would the AI automated worker be aware of the new technology and get rid of the cottage and make a plantation for that tile?
I'm not actually sure what they would do, but its very likely they would build a fort on top before Plantations become useable! They are however, certainly willing to change tiles if the option to prevent it isn't turned on, often leading to hilariously stupid behaviour, like farming over towns.

A much better test would be to play the early game using auto workers, then the same map manually using them.
