HOW TO: Import/modify/export LH

^Yes, that's what I get and when I zoom in super close I see the Leader I imported all screwed up... :shake:

^Yeah...but the problem is that the nodes are 10x larger than the leaderhead which is warped. Everything is on it's default options and I haven't messed with the thing at all, what is it?

Hmm, are the nodes the four cube things or the 'ball of lines' thing? After updating to Blender 2.45 today that's all I get when importing .nif files.

I think that Blender 2.45 have some difficulties with the import script, I still use the 2.43(and I think Sez still use this too, would have to chech with him) and everything is fine for me.

I have Blender 2.42a but when I try using it, it says the nif scripts were written for Blender 2.45. What version of the nif scripts are you using?

I'm also using the old script version.

THIS JUST IN. :D
The newest version of the nif scripts were just released, it's excellent! For Blender 2.45. Thanks again for this tutorial Roland. :)

Does anyone know a 3dsmax version of this tutorial? I really don't want to become acquainted with yet another 3d modelling program from scratch.

I do have the import/export files for 3dsmax, but for instance:

What exactly do I check/un-check when exporting/importing? (lights, cameras, collisions?)

My first attempt hit a brick wall because my modified LH did not have "189NiTriShape" in its drop down menu (upto 140's only) and the textures did not seem to appear for some reason. ???

=/

this method he shows is specifically for blender and nifskope. i imagine you could use the 3dsmax 7 and nifviewer method of reboning, but it would take about, oh, 2 hours to reanimate the LH. trust me, i dont model at all, and blender is super easy and relatively simple. and if you already model, it should be a snap. :)

For the exportation part, you can check Ploper's part of the tutorial we wrote togheter. It will show you how to exprot (well, how to import too). In fact, check all the tutorial because you will need the nifskope part too.

C. Roland, Garret, Dutchking...

Can you guys add to this tutorial how to unglue parts of a body (i.e. some hats are counted as part of the body or even some beards counted as head hair) and how to locate it properly (how to set x,y,z). I'm just not figuring that out in nifskope.

Try importing a nonshader rather than a regular LH. Usually works when all else fails. (or get new scripts if that doesn't work)

^OK OK, I promise I'll post one TOMORROW. I have a half day at school so I can squeeze it in. :)

here's how i do it

you select the objects with right click. they turn pink

then you select edit mode, they turn into wireframe. now when you right click it selcts a point

right click on an object and then press cntrl+numpad "+" a bunch of times and it will select a whole bunch of stuff.

then press delete and select "faces". be careful this will delete a bunch of stuff, you need to play with it to get used to this.

for instance, on the leader i made today "Josip Tito" i needed a stalin hat, so i deleted all of his body and bones and eyes, ect. until just the hat was left. this method is limited somewhat by the separations of the models.

once you have the part you want isolated by deleting everything else, you can export it as a nif, then use the nifviewer to place it on your leader.

for arms and stuff, i dont think there will be much you can do however. the method i list is good mainly for "accessories"
