How to keep the game interesting in the later eras?

And if someone wanted to only play for example a Preh Era to Medieval Era Game that also could be a possibility.

Were you calling my name? :p

AND2 has an Option to end the game at end of Modern Era with their No Future Era Option.

The way that works is by editing every tech past the one you want and setting cost to -1 and then going through each building, unit etc to make sure the ones from those techs are also cost -1. Unfortunately it is individual for each era.

If we were not adding techs all the time it may be possible to have a set in the My_Mods (Unloaded) folder which you copied into the My_Mods to end the game when you wanted. It would need to use a GameOption I think but not one needed in the main screen and dll as it would only be used when you had the folder in play. Then you would need to start the game, save it, exit Civ. Then start the game up and load your save to get the pedia and tech trees looking right.

I would prefer Laniakea ship for space-race, it means leaving our Galaxy cluster and getting to any galaxy cluster in Laniakea, while preserving galaxy clusters move. it would be the best space victory I can think. It would be late galactic age or age next after galactic age.

here is note on laniakea

Erm Laniakea consists of 100,000 galaxies. Galaxies are quite big: Galaxies range in size from dwarfs with just a few thousand (10^3) stars to giants with one hundred trillion (10^14) stars. Our own galaxy (Milky Way) is relatively small and consists of at least 200 billion stars.

It would be quite an effort to colonize even our own 200 billion stars, colonizing a whole supercluster (because our own galaxy is overpopulated?) is way beyond anything reasonable or even delusional.

I mean some part of laniakea out of our (super)cluster, not whole Laniakea. Just some politician/science type of "wonder". Just a place which is still a challenge in late galaxy era or an era or two later. Maybe a place with minerals worth trilions times more valuable than gold? (containing some next stable chemical elements than in Mendeleyev table).

Could you Perhaps add Abandoned Cities from Aliens Civilizations? (like if they were on earth and moved out or extinct). I mean Humanoidal ones but with much more advanced technology. (while player and AI is at Prehistoric, this NPC would be in about Transhuman). the NPC would have no settlers and would have no organic units availible, and would have a trait giving them Negative Promotions for free (for example "General AI Failure", "Rusty", "Chocking" etc) so players still can advance them. They would mostly guard the borders, and inside city would be much of great buildings - maybe even a StarGate?

This is one of the biggest unresolved issues in my space colonization work. So far I have no idea how to set up appropriate alien cities or units, and if I did, I don't know how they would function. There are terrain features (e.g. Arcology Ruins) and map bonuses (e.g. Ancient Relics) which could unlock special buildings, and that would be a start. It's a good idea, but a tricky one to do right.

Major programming required. We'll have to work together and get an initial design plan first but I'd beg us not to try to tackle this one for a while. So many other things to address!

Agreed. For one thing, we'll first have to hammer out a lot of things like what kind of off-planet units there should be, what interplanetary and galactic maps look like, etc. And we're nowhere near having competitive games that go into the Galactic Era or AI that can handle space colonization.

majeczek: this is one of the unfortunate realities of modding in general, even with a game like Civ IV which is well-designed for it. Since we're building upon layers and layers of legacy systems, things that seems like they should be relatively straightforward are anything but.

okay I understand. Time for refactoring? that is what programmers hate the most...
but anyway we have 32bit executable and getting its limits.

Thankfully we have Viewports, so we are near Multimaps. And we have Swapping so we may steal more memory without problems with viewports.

I think, for space there should be global map where planets are like towns/forts on normal map, and space would look like a small islands map with sea and ocean (appropariately near and deep space), so SpaceShips would be really Ships for Space :).

IMO, later eras need more content. For example, civics. Almost all of them you can discover before Transhuman era, some in Transhuman era and only 1 (Time travel) after that.
As for space race ship. IMO, we need transdimensional ship. Because civilization in Galaxy era is 3rd-type civilization (Kardashev scale). Travelling through different galaxies for them aren't something unusual or epic.
