Hello,

I am new here. I just bought Civilization IV complete and would like to play it on a 1080P Widescreen TV. I use Windows 7 64 bit and run as administrator.

I just want to change the font size which is too small on the TV. I did my research on this forum and know that I have to go to "\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Resource\Themes\Civ4\Civ4Theme_Common.thm " and change the numbers of Size0, 1, 2, 3 to bigger numbers. I opened this THM file using BlocNotes and WordPad.

But it won't let me save the changes I made to it. How do I make them save it?

Please help me. I would like to play this critically-acclaimed game as soon as possible. Please help me.

there is nothing special about the .thm files that should make any trouble saving it. try to copy it to the desktop and see if you can change it there. otherwise try Notepad.

I did it and it worked! I didn't know it was that simple. I used BlocNotes but I am sure that it would have worked with WordPad too.

However, I have another problem. The game still uses the old fonts. I am no computer programmer but I think I have to make the game look for the modifiled file on the desktop and not look for the original file. Is that right? If yes, then how do I do that?

Please help me, thanks.

Once you modify it, you need to put it back where it goes.

By the way, the path you specified is the file for vanilla Civ4. Warlords and BtS have versions of this file down in their folders (like ...\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Resource\Themes).

Thank you!!! It worked. I can now see better sitting 8 feet away from the TV.

My modified font sizes are still too small, though. The research I made said not to use a number greater than 20 because Size 4 (which is the largest) uses the number 22. I hope the research is wrong because I am tempted to increase the number for the other Sizes (except Size 4) to be greater than 20. Can I do it? I am not a computer programmer and know nothing about modding but I know all about corrupted files and crashes and would like to avoid that.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know that. I plan to use the Tutorial in the original Civilization IV and then jump straight to BtS.
