Well, I've told myself for a while that I could beat deity if I actually committed to it, and here we are. I'm France, standard 70% continents and didn't start any ancient wars, just because the land wasn't rich enough (mostly plains) to get the reinforcements fast enough. Now I've kept up in tech to cav without the GL (cav in 4 turns, and have horses and cash on standby for a big upgrade). But, at the other continent there's a runaway AI, the celts, that is nearing 100k. They're at 20k at 530 AD  . I see no way of stopping them. Sending an army over to pillage will do nothing, and they're also giving me the invaluable ivory. They're still in the MA, thank goodness. Maybe after I kill the Dutch I should send some armies and raze cities? Will get a save soon, as soon as I can stop myself from playing

You'll almost certainly have to take them down, and if they're running away on deity level you'll probably have to start sooner rather than later because thanks to their production bonus it could take you quite a few turns to eat through their 'field units' and get at their cities.

How close is #2 in culture? If it is another AI, keep it alive, until you get the gap down to less than half. If it is you, then you have to get more culture and slow theirs down.

This is hard as they probably have lots of wonders and improvements. You have lots of time to trim the gap. As you said pillaging will not affect the acumulated culture, you will have to raze or capture cities to redue the amount added each turn.

Well, if you can, take out the 20k city, that should slow things down, also, a ROP-Rape may do the trick, and successful resource pillage mission will make their cities riot.

Chances are that the 20K is the captiol and if you can get to it you have them beat anyway. Just losing that city will not reduce their culture score, only cost them the culture it was generating each turn.

They are probably not going to riot at deity, but even if they do it will not do that much. It will cost them the culture for that turn only.

All culture accumulated is permanet. Each turn the culture is added to the total. It cannot be reduced. You can only reduce the cpt and hence how much is added on the next turn.

What size is the map, if not std, then 100K is not the target. Of course 100K is only the target if no one has at least 50K.

im guessing what vmxa ment was that even though if you raze a city, the 20k culture from that city will still be on the total culture, i think  .

EDIT:Care to show a screenie of what we are talking about?(the enemy's core)

You will have to kill them, there is no other way to stop 100K. But you can delay it by making them mobilize: it cuts culture oer turn by halve. With arty and armies you should be able to raze several of their core cities even if they are very strong.

Isnt Odense a japanese or someone else's civ besidest the celtic city? Oh, and thanks for the pics, just by looking at the core, i already see 2 luxes.

Pondered signing the vikings with the japs against the celts. I don't know who would win, though the Celts have more cities than the two of them, the japs and vikings each have their own core, while the celts only have one. IMO it's an even match and the RNG decides. The Vikings have cav and zerkers, so they're well off on attacking, but the celts have rifles. I'll sign them in definately when I invade.

Why there are some cities rioting? If there are resistors in a city, you can turn on the governor, and he will stop any rioting before it happens.
