How to recognize a Novice or newbie gamer.

I agree with Ybbor. The CIV forum is a hive of newbies. Yikes. Most of there ideas are very scary.

I find newb bashers even more annoying. ;)

Seriuously, the guys who yell "Newbie" when I ask a simple question. Just ignore me or answer it - I don't need to hear "Fing Newbie"!!

ummm I noticed another way...they think games like suikoden or street figther suck because they are in 2D.

that's just being ignorant...

You turn the corner and get shot by your teamate because "you look like a terrorist uniform."

................

How d u think u can recognize them??.

Typing like that can often be a good clue.

Plus theres nothing wrong with any amount of sports games, if theyre good games. (Pro Evolution Soccer/Winning Eleven)

They might have the sound off... Plus sometimes tutorials can be very annoying if you have to do things in a specific order when you know what you need to do already...

Then they should skip the tutorials. :D

I love that picture.

To recognize a newbie civ player: one city and lots of warriors walking around. Hasn't figured out how to change production in the city screen yet. (it happened to me...)

They trump thier partner's trick!

Now you know why I play hearts.

Although I'm better at Euchre than Spades...

I belive one player of Warcraft III said it best when he established the difference between newbies and n00bs:

Newbie: One who is new to or unskilled in a game, newbies often have simple strategies and don't know what they're doing at first, but thay have the ability to learn and will except advice from others.

n00b (that's n[zero][zero]b): A person who is new to a game, but not willing to admit it. They make up lame excuses for their shortcomings and flame others who attempt to advise or criticise their gameplay.

The main factor seperating the two: the newb is just ignorant of the game and will grow out of it, whereas the n00b is just some idiot who will just sit there thinking he/she's the greatest ever.

Everyone starts out as a noob/novice when you're just starting to learn, but scrubs never get better. I think its because they're always asking the wrong questions. Instead of thinking about how to play the game and asking themselves how to better play the game, theyre always concerned more about something that doesnt affect their playing, like why can't i do <insert fanboy based wish>, why is the game graphic bad, i don't understand the story plot, how can i cheat, why am i losing to everyone... this game is rigged etc.

There you have an example of noobs....

I have chatted in those threads and I'm not a noob (whether I chatted there or not). How does giving your opinion on who is the best video game character make you a noob?
