How to recognize a Novice or newbie gamer.

I have chatted in those threads and I'm not a noob (whether I chatted there or not). How does giving your opinion on who is the best video game character make you a noob?

and did you read what i posted there? how does arguing who is better help at all. All the video game character are in different game where they play differently. You can't compare and contrast shiek VS mitsurugi for example. Only fanboys do that and it doesnt contribute to anything resourceful in getting better at smash brother or soul calibur. In fact it is quite the opposite of resourceful cause those topics are highly based on opinions. And most people that like to discuss such topic can become very immature and start flaming. Its not only unresourceful but harmful i might say. I said scrubs tend to spend time chatting away on unresourceful topic such as those way more than topic that discusses indepth strategy of that game. And it's true. If scrubs bothered to pay attention to how the game is played instead of chatting away in fanboy topic, they could get better. but they dont. thread I linked is just an example of such pointless chats that dont help your game.

Label me as a jerk. But I only said what was very true to most gamers. After all, you can be called a jerk for saying whats true in many different situations.... Most people would rather want to hear nice things be said even though it isnt the case

Netgear has a point you know. Those kinds of discussion never ever go anywhere, and entirely come down to personal opinion. And of course, the characters aren't real. Discussing how they would do against each other is pointless because of that fact. It will not matter which character ends up winning the poll, as there will be people who think it was rigged or something, as their favourite character didn't win.

This is exactly why I haven't bothered posting or voting in it. I look at it and the posts inside it with mild amusement at the whole pointlessness of it all. :p

I don't see what good will come out of all this newbie bashing or joking. :hmm:

Everybody has to be a newbie at a new game at one time.
suprisingly, not with me. In fact I usually beat games the first day I play them (THAT is sad)

I think 'noobs' (man I hate that word) isn't the right word, Fanboys is a better word. It just pointless saying who is the 'best' character, because it will not change the preson's mind about it.

Anyways back on Topic.

-They think Alt-F4 is a cheat.
-They don't know how to Deploy the MCV in Command and Conquer. (I had this happened, on my team on a 2-2  )
-They drive a tank/jeep to the airfield in Battlefield 1942. To get to the planes first only to crash 3 sec later, or get beat to it and say the person stole their plane and tried to TK that preson for the rest of the game
-They drive over their team's LandMines in BF1942, even throught there is a waring of landmines and the preson who put them there said watch out for the mines. (This is the worst, not only do they make a hole in the minefield, it counts as a TK for the engineer

The Engineer is one of the worst classes to play as in that game, people never thank you for repairing their tank/plane/ect, but always blame you when they rolls over your mind.

chaos. no u've not understood my very first post i guess.

Everyone starts out a newbie. Newbie simply means you have no experience or knowledge of how game is played. Newbies doesnt mean you suck. You might be sucking for that moment when you're picking up the game but as you are learning you grow out of the newb stage. Scrubs are people who have not any more knowledge than newbs and have very warped ideas about how game should be played. and usually they are very stubborn to accept good ideas and strategies from better players. because of that they usually aren't good. WHat you described above to me, would seem to be a scrub player.

fanboys are almost always in along with the scrub category cause they can't seem to focus on how to play the game, but indulge themselves in useless chatters. If you like SSBM for example, why not spend time observing how shiek VS marth match unfolds and try to come up with creative strategies and counter strategies. Discussing a marth VS mitsurugi topic... now that is just gonna go nowhere.

Well I know everyone starts out as a newbie, but the 'noobs' are people who are newbies that don't try to impovre.

BTW I was just getting back on topic when I was making that list

Okay. netgear, You yourself such long posts, you are wasting your time on pointless stuff just like you accuse people like me who've posted in the thread. The forum is to discuss stuff about games, so it doesn't matter really if we argue or not. It's what we choose to do. Notice that I haven't flamed or anything so far, and I'm not actually arguing, but people are making up ideas of how the characters would fight each other. Everyone knows it's not real, so what's wrong with imagining it was. Viedo games themselves aren't real, yet we still enjoy talking about them. And by arguing with me you are doing what you don't like other people for.

You're making no friends here netgear. ;)

DaBomb, Im glad you pointed this fact out, since thats clear indication of us having a good discussion/arguement, rather than "OMG STFU ******* **** you!!!111!!". I was hoping someone would bring this up. As it is an absolutely a valid statement.

First you must realize if you observe "what is the point?" arguement deeply, you realize nothing has a point. Me posting here has no point, fanboying has no point, getting better has no point, getting good job has no point, etc. Using "There's no point" is merely a cheap argument.

So while knowing this, why did I accuse other's action as being pointless? Well I guess I didnt wanna be so politicaly and technically correct to explain every lil detail about my arguement... and I guess I was also trying to troll an good response against mine as well.

So having said that, consider this. What you said is 100% correct. As long as you have fun fanboying away to your wildest dream without flaming, it doesnt matter whether its pointless. As long as it has point to you. After all thats all that matters. And noobs too! who cares if they dont know how to even drive vehicles in UT2K4 and BF1942? As long as they are having fun right? After all they know no better to just crash and kill teammates, but theyre playing a new game and having lots of fun. It doesnt matter if you're good or not as long as ur having fun in the end. And no one should criticize how one plays a game. But so far no one has come to n00b's defense, when they were put in a negative light.

have in mind that fanboying is always going to be treated as a scrubby activity, just like how this thread treat the noobs. Why? cause it contributes nothing to the game. Its annoying IMO that fanboys would rather flood with chats that doesnt help me with the game. Just like how everyone of us here that contributed to their lil ode to hating 'noobs'. I dont like fanboys. Cause they dont help my game. They dont contribute anything worthwhile to game communities.

You can fanboy all you want. hey, as long as you have fun doing it. right? but just like how your attitude was toward n00bs. Gamer's attitude toward fanboys arent going to be so nice. And you can't expect us to act anyway different than what you've done so urself. making negative remarks about what it is to be a fanboy. Just like what it is to be a noob.

PS, last one was measle 2 paragraph. Hardly justifies as being called long. Now this one.. is long :D And even this one isnt bad. you make it sound as reading a bit is gonna kill. :p

You're making no friends here netgear
Im not here to make friends. I really dont give a damn about anyone of you. Im here to discuss and argue. Im interested in what you have to say.

I wouldn't even call that a long post. I've seen longer. ;)

People who are new to a game and try to learn the game I don't mind, I'll help them out. The ones who don't bother trying to learn the game are just as bad as fanboys.

And I guarantee that thread will go nowhere. I was involved in a thread on gamefaqs once, that was about who would win in a fight. Kefka or Sephiroth. I ignored it in the end, as it got to something like 10 pages and was just going nowhere.

(Sigh) So confrontational. I see nothing wrong with a poll that has people choose their favorite character. As SoG said:
this is like a favorite SSBM poll...
Much more valid than how to recognize a n00b.

Try Victoria, and report to me your first day results...

I like where you said, getting good job has no point.
I think getting a good job has a pretty big point. Without a good job to pay for the computer you're on and the internet service you have (unless you use someone else's computer, which means you need a good job) you wouldn't be able to talk here.

hey, just trying to converse peacefully. :D

Ok so you get a job to pay for ur computer. whats the point of having a computer. whats the point of posting here. Keep asking this question to urself and come back to me when you realize if u keep asking this question u'll eventually hit that meaning of life crap and realize asking what is the point of anything is an invalid arguement.

That is my point.

<3 people that drive tanks and jeeps to airfield so I'm stuck in the base getting bombed by an enemy plane B)

Eh, running over mines on purpose. I'm guilty of that but I do on purpose, as in proving to the person that laid them that they were lain in an IDIOTIC place. Like right outside the airfield on Wake... you dont lay them there. EVER.

And the engineer is one of the best classes to play. If you don't get thanked, oh well. Hopefully you get thanked when you win later. The positives of the engineer class FAR outway the negatives.

Well, we're all here to have fun, and acting nice to each other and not trolling is part of that game. (That's why trolling is forbidden according to the rules. :p)

To avoid this thread "going nowhere":
As NetGear pointed out, you can consider a newbie someone who simply plays a game for the first time, or someone who plays stupid because he actually doesn't know the game, but doesn't want to learn or grow better either. I think NetGear's right about that. However, making such distinction and elaborating it after someone just made fun about the second type - I would call that "killing the joke".

I don't think this thread asks for a heavy debate. :) Just have fun, and make fun of those st00p!d n00b's. :D

Yeah, I wasn't talking about badly placed mines. I one time placed them on the bridge that leads to the Germans uncappable base, and a preson going to camp the enemy base ran over them.

And the engineer is one of the best classes to play. If you don't get thanked, oh well. Hopefully you get thanked when you win later. The positives of the engineer class FAR outway the negatives.

Yeah I love the engineer, but I got kicked a number of times for TKing (like when a Fully loaded APC runs over a mine I put down), and never been thanks for repairing.
