I'm playing a few Quecha rush games on Deity at the moment and leveraging off the Inca's unique ability to simultaneously build more Quecha (replaces warrior +100% vs archery units) while upgrading others to either Spearmen and Axemen.

Each of my cities is typically defended by a single Quecha and I'm building more Quecha to attack archer stacks and cities and defend key territory from AI archer incursions. Quecha are better value for money when facing archers than Axes and at Deity with free Archery Tech the AI does not build warriors which would be better for them against my Quecha.

As and when metals are around ie the AI starts adopting Slavery, my hoarde of Quecha can continue to make gains and defend my territory and capture cities as long as they are accompanied by some more expensive Axemen and where necessary Spearmen.

If the opponent sends his fast mounted units into the field to pillage then I'll use the Spearmen to deal with that threat. Spearmen will also get good odds against mounted/archer stacks. If the mounted units are just chariots and the opponents have Metal based units then I'll use Axes in this role just as well.

Where the opponent has a combined arms stack including Metal based units then I use Axemen with combat promotions in the field and city raider to capture cities just as you would for any other Civ when using a Hoarde of Axemen. But with the Inca I'll still take along some cheap Quecha to deal with weakened archers.

On defense my key point here is that I keep 140g in the treasury (marathon speed). If the AI threatens one of my weakly defended cities (just a single Quecha in residence) and I don't have any mobile units to counter I can instantly upgrade any one of my city garrison Quecha to either Spearman or an Axemen whist pop rushing whatever unit the city was currently building (usually an Axeman at this point but sometimes a Quecha or Spearman).

Thus if the enemy is approaching with mounted units I have the choice of upgrading my Quecha to a Spearman which is very useful if I have no Spearmen around and one in not queued up.

Likewise if melee units approach without me expecting (not as likely as they are slow) then I can upgrade the Quecha to an Axeman if needed. If Archers approach I'll save my 140gold and just pop rush the second defender.

Egypt and Persia have a similar ability to simultaneously build more War Chariots and Immortals alongside Horse Archers so can spend gold to get a stronger unit with different special abilities but there is no choice as to which unit to upgrade to - it will always be a Horse Archer and when facing AI HA combat odds are just 50%.

In my most recent gain this worked real well as I had Quecha rushed Roosovelt to oblivion capturing 3 cites with Quecha and I was gearing up to attack Alexander as soon as Washinton's culture expanded to a copper mine and had phased research to bring in Hunting the very next turn. I was pretty certain Alex had no copper as I saw his pasture and Chariots but no metal units.

My highly promoted Quecha from the American war were tasked with razing two new Greek cities build behind the lines where I knew only Archers were present while fresh Quecha were following Alex's War Chariots from just within my borders.

Just before as I was about to hook up copper and DoW I pillaged the roads between Alex's forward cities and his core to slow up his reinforcement rate.

The on the very turn after copper was hooked up and I learned hunting I was set to DoW the very next turn but then Alex actually declared on me (without metal units my power was low).

He did manage to kill my two pillaging Quecha but I responded by instantly whipping out three spearmen, upgrading a critical defending Quecha to spearman and pop rushing some axes to boot.

Alex's forward cities soon fell to Quecha while his offensive stacks were crushed by spear and axe just as they crossed the border.

There was one tricky battle around Boston as it was not hooked up to my road network and got attacked by two Greek chariots and an archer against Quecha defenders. I just reinforced and pop-rushed fresh Quecha to fight a war of attrition (until a relief force of spearmen came to the rescue). After that it was just mop-up to raze another Greek city and capture three from his core.
