Huge Population sizes in early game?

I notice that my capital city reaches size 7 about 170 turns into the game... and then is only 3 turns away from growing to size 8. I look to the current game's superpower, and their capital is size 21!!


It's only 200 turns into a 3075 turn Snail-speed game. Is this normal?

You must have had an excellent start. My last game the start location had -7 health and I could not go above pop 2 until the classic era.

It's not me, it's every civ in the game.

Speaking only from an Epic speed game, Yes.

The AI is now very adept at growing their cities. Larger cities means more research, more units, more gold. Keep pace if you can. The old tech paths are not the same anymore either.

There have been reports of size 70+ cities in Modern era. I have seen 50+ size in my games in late Industrial Era.

Correct, i am playing on Epic myself, and my Capital (for the first time ever since i have been playing Civ) is at 84 pop, heck i have never had anything over 40 before. I dont know why this is happening?

I posted a save game to Koshling last night about this. I had my capital growing every turn for several turns and it was in the upper 70s. However, I was only at a net +13 or so food. It seemed that nearly the entire stock of food was being retained after every growth.

Later on pops of 70+ are easy if you have certain beneficial corporations

I actually have no corps in my capital. But I believe you. I can found some and see that the food bonuses they give are incredible.

I'm getting like 25 food from corp building in several cities - and its going up all the time as I chain Great Farmers to build more of the feeding resources lol. Also the AI is super-dumb about trading you resources you already have really cheap so I also have mining inc and about 10 extra iron and so on from AIs trading me 'duplicates' at a discount. I feel so guilty ;-)

Yeah, i dont have ANY corporations yet either, or guilds for that matter.

But isn't that what BIG corporations actually do nowadays? Oil corporations are making Millions in profit every THREE months, and"we" the fools pay it
