I'm playing Arabia, on 3rd easiest difficulty (I forget what it's called).

Anyways a Carthaginian city defected to me, I accepted them and then, as it was processing the city transfer.....All of Carthage disappeared! I got the "Sir We have destroyed the fledgling Carthaginians!" message and all of the Carthaginian cities were turned to rubble.

This is one big glitch! Either that or my Culture is just that strong.

Anyone else encoutered this before?

No glitch: you had Elimination enabled. With this option, if a civ loses one city - by any means - their entire civ disappears.

Ack. That was an accident then. Is there anyway to disable it once you're in game?

Unfortunately, no.

If you load saves from the board you can get your settings stepped on, so check them. I am always find some messed up and preferecnes as well.

It could be.

It was designed for quick multiplayer games. Not really what you want to use in an epic game. I did once, for giggles, and it turned out to be not much fun.

You can set the elimination level- sometimes I'll set it for ten (or higher) cities. That's a considerable part of a civ's empire on Standard, so I use it to make games a little quicker without making them completely devoid of difficulty.

Yeah, that works out, but that option isn't included in PTW. Of course, Elimination isn't even in Vanilla....

Yeah i had it on for a while and saw the AI's turn to rubble but i found out what the problem was and fixed it

Most common reason: You play a Conquest with elimination. The next time you start a regular game it will use the defaults of that conquest. Instead of having separate defaults for each game type they only programmed one.

There is no in-game way of turning off elimination except restarting. Save game modifiers can though, for example the one in the Civ3 MultiTool, see the Creation and Customisation sub-forum.
