Humankind Game by Amplitude

We don't have any dev diaries, wiki, or blogs yet. All our Teasers right now are on our Twitter/FB/Instagram. But I will be sure to let you all know when we start sharing more substantial content (unless, of course, Eagle_Pursuit posts it faster than I do, which at this point seems rather likely.)

And I know people love the first look videos. I'm not sure we can quite do that due to the greater number of Cultures, but I'll be sure to discuss our options with the rest of the team.

Just a possibility to accomodate as many of the frothing fanatics as possible, would be a set of 'short videos' each showing off some aspect of game play - especially game mechanics 'new' to 4X or substantially different from what we're used to - with each of them also showing a different Faction. That way, while showing off Trade, Religion, Wonder building, (if any), Civic or City-Bulding mechanics you could also show off the Renaissance Austrian Faction's Emblematic Croissant-Baking Unit.
Properly planned, even a 2 minute video can show off a lot of game mechanics and Civ/Faction peculiarities and, as we've proven many times, keep these Forums speculating for months . . .

I hear you, but I have to say as much as we love listening on your speculation, keep in mind you are not the only people we are trying to reach. We'll be sure to give you more detailed information, but I can't promise you what format this will take.

@Cerilis

Nah I think they are all men he just has slightly softer facial features. Bowmen and Pyramids yep that's what we expect from Nubia right? Happy to see Nubia continue to get attention it really deserves it.

I mean, if we just go by facial features I'd assume more than one are women. ^^ But this one also seems to have breasts! Also maybe wider pelvis and less wide shoulders.

Is this the first "Merchant" culture we've seen revealed?

The body does look quite feminine. Hips are definitely wider. Whether this will carry over into the in-game models, we shall see.

Looks familiar but well, what else can you give ancient Nubia other than super bowman and pyramids? ;) Unless you go into very late ancient era/feudal era, for Makuria and Alodia - it'd be interesting if one game explored that possibility (or from renaissance era - islamic Funj/Sennar).

Alas, I guess black pre-classical civ was needed and really there is no option before 500BC other than Nubia of Kerma/Kush/Napata/Meroe. Well, there could be Damot, Punt or something from Nigeria, but Subsaharan Africa is yet very undeveloped regarding archeologic research.

Understand completely - if you intend to stay in business, you have to at least attract some people with money to buy the game, and based on all the posts on these Threads about Game Sales, the Fanatics appear to be a pretty cheap bunch . . .

On the other hand, we're also pretty grateful for anything you can scrape up for us, so no worries.

Now, on the Nubian presentation. As noted, the most intriguing thing about this is that is designated as a 'Merchant' or 'Mercantile' Faction, which presumably means they have a bias/bonus for Gold generation or maybe Trade Route formation, and from what has been implied this Bonus or some of it carries over later in the game even after you've moved to another Era and turned your Nubians into the Grand Duchy of Vladimir or some similar well-known Medieval Faction.

But, the 'card sets' for each Civ don't include any information about any such Bias/Bonus. I presume that's because the 'bonus' is for any or all Merchant Factions, not specific to a single set of Merchanters.
You know, though, that we're going to go nuts trying to guess what such a bias/bonus could be . . .

Ok about those avatars, this is bothering me but your avatar is proabrly changing if you choose a different culture in the game. So what if I decide that I want to go from the Nubian culture to Viking culture for example. Does the skin color of your avatar change? Or does (s)he stay almost the same throughout the game? Or do you get a new leader every time you change culture? I will probarly change if you switch cultures because I saw that in the trailer but I am just scared that some leaders might look weird when they are going to switch to a different culture.

As you change cultures, the outfit of your avatar will change, but not the avatar itself. Facial features, hairstyle, etc. will remain consistent throughout the game.

I'd share some examples of my own avatar, but I don't know if I can... I don't want the artists to demand my head because I accidentally showed something unfinished. :D

I suspect the change in your culture during the game will be depicted by changes in clothing and building style (maybe music, too, for those who play with the sound on), rather than by skin tone. Presumably the culture of going a-Viking could have arisen elsewhere, and not just amongst fair-skinned north Europeans. Hence no need for your people to change physical appearance, they just need to develop a fast, ocean-going emblematic ship and a talent for dispossessing others of their worldly goods. Maybe your avatar pops a Viking helmet on their head to look fierce.

I love this! I really liked how leader images changed over time in civ III, although I understand how many thought it was cheesy or weird (skinhead Joan of arc, anyone? )

Your approach seems to preserve the fun of different looks through the ages without the civ III weirdness.

Looking forward to humankind! At first I didnt care at all, but after buying and playing endless space 2, and seeing what 4x can really do when in the hands of Amplitude, I have become a believer!
