Based on what I can see...the red boxes appear to be Units in the tech tree.
Mongol horde has a symbol with it that could probably indicate it is only available to the Mongol culture.
Another example: there's a Norse symbol by "Longship" at Seafaring Mastery.
And then go look towards the right - another Naval tech in the renaissance has a Fluyt with a Dutch Flag below it.
This is FUN.
Edit: I also see Venetian Galleass on the tree! And on the same tech, I see what appears to be the words "Turtle Ship"
Another Edit: There's also an angled version of the tech tree where I can see a Frankish unique unit at Chivalry, some kind of Cavalry unit. I think it says "Capetian Knights"
@Eagle Pursuit come see what you can make of the tech trees. I think there's a Parthian unit too.
Edit 3: there also appears to be "Hunnic Horde" in the Classical era...

I didn't see Galleon, but I did see Galleass (I thought) with what looked like a Venetian lion below it. Idk, hard to tell with these, but it is a fun guessing game.

Under Teutonic Knights at 2:36 appears to be Camel Cavalry(?) with another faction symbol, and below that another unit with an Arabian/Islamic faction symbol.

Good catch. To me the camel-adjacent icon looks very much like the "Gye Nyame" Adinkra symbol, so Akan people confirmed?
Seems like a bit of an odd choice for both camels and the medieval era, though. If that is indeed the same symbol, maybe someone confused the Ghana Empire (medieval, used a lot of camels) with the modern country of Ghana (home to the Akan)?
We seem to have the confirmation of spies from the tech tree! Think I may also be able to make out "praetorian guard" at 2:38, which isn't surprising but is news nonetheless!
Very happy to see units such as the cog and galleass, which are stages of evolution that Civ VI decided to skip over for whatever reason. I have my fingers crossed for trebuchets!

That's definitely Praetorian Guard. Thanks for pointing it out!
EDIT: Upon looking at the Classical and Medieval Eras again, both "Hunnic Horde" and "Mongol Horde" seem unconnected to technologies, which leads me to speculate that for the initial release of Humankind, these two will be highly aggressive minor factions appearing in those respective eras.

It might be unique techs automatically available for those factions to research and therefore unconnected from the tech tree, but I like your interpretation.
Edit: @Jkchart There's a similar rectangle in the Industrial Era however. What do you make of that?
maybe It's not much of a detail, but that palace at 1:13 looks like the Royal palace at Palenque, so...Mayans confirmed? Also, I want to thank Amplitude for clearly doing their research and giving us accurate coloe schemes for mesoamerican civs, I despise the "add moss and plants to make it look mesoamerican" cliche. We know by now that they used a lot of plaster on their buildings and used a whole bunch of bright colors in their buildings.
