I'll be honest I was expecting Italy to be modern, but I really like it, really looking forward to see the city graphics.

Also, I didn't care much for the units description until the Open dev, they really do play different in game, I'm looking forward to seeing what a bunch of well positioned Alpini can endure.

Not entirely in the loop regarding Humankind but are The Italians only a later game civilisation? Is Medieval/Renaissance Italy represented in the game at all? We obviously have The Romans for classical era. The Goths/Byzantines perhaps?

I can't get enough of the art style though. Superb.

I don't remember Italy in the previous list of Industrial culture predictions. Opens up more possibilities.

It also seems to me that the Industrial Era cultures will be mostly European, probably means we will have more non-European cultures in Contemporary.

I guess the Iranians aren't in at launch.....

I didn't expect anything other than Aesthete for the Italians. Nice showcase of Italian Opera.

@salty mud There's Venetians in the Early Modern Era

We got Venice, I'm sure that Italian cultures will get more spots with further development.

The Renaissance (Early Modern in HK parlance) cultures have all been revealed. Italians are an Industrial Era culture.

Yeah that one is a bummer I was looking forward to it.

Or they got an art delay like the Celts and Aztecs.

I always believed than Italians were in the game but I didn't expect them in Industrial ;) What a surprise !
The Emblematic Unit is really good. The quarter looks similar to A-H, and they are Aesthete too, but Italian are maybe more about "widespread ideology and propaganda ?" (the quote sounds like this for me^^)

Also, "Italians" wasn't a thing in Renaissance, they identified themselves as "Florentines" or "Venetians" etc. instead. Similar to how HK separates English and British.

Once again, amazing art! And since playing the OpenDev scenarios and knowing the importance of hills, I would imagine the Alpini will be extremely good.

Seems like all the big European players are in; maybe next week we will finally see a non-european culture? Probably Mexican vs Meiji.

I didn't expect Italians in this era, but in the modernity. Huh. It seems now that Amplitude doesn't care about "eurocentrism" or "perfectionist balance" of cultures in eras at all :D

Still, it's great to see Italians in the game.

Also, either no Iranians or they are named differently ("Qajar Iranians" sounds really silly)

I read the A-H quote as more focused on music (+culture), and Italian quote more focused on plays/patriotism (+stability).

Neither were "Byzantines" until long after Constantinople had fallen to the Turks, but here we are. For earlier periods I'd have liked to see perhaps a specific cultural name for the civilisation, such as The Lombards.

Most of Europe is getting Parisian architecture, but if you look besides Teatro, there are obvious Mediterranean buildings, so they will get an Industrial version of those (i.e. like Spain or what we assume is a screenshot of Mexico).

The Austro-Hungarian Legacy Trait is called Emperor's Hand so we think they'll be the ones thematically focused on keeping the AH together.

Having two "Romans" or a "Roman" together with a "Romaioi" would only cause confusion for non-nerd players - which is the majority of players. "Venetian" and "English" don't have this problem.

Interesting, I don't know about the Legacy Trait before, that's a reasonable argument.

On the other hand, IRL 19th century Italian Kingdom is not that much centralized, internal conflicts between central government and different regions continued, and Italian national identity didn't fully take shape until around/after WWI due to mass mobilization and the raise of Italian irredentism. Therefore an EQ focuses on keeping Italy together also works.
