I have played with them off for a while now. I always had them on without giving it a thought until I played along with a couple forum games and saw that most had them off.

Prince/Monarch, they don't exist.

Noble both on. The Events on extreme as all are made to have a chance to appear in a game (except the Barb uprisings and Bermuda which are modded out) and all except the quests are set to be recurring.

Laff! Those are my settings, except I have the barb uprisings (not recurring due to AI civs getting wipedout by Aryans) and Bermuda still in. Did you increase it to 10% per turn occuring or left it as per normal?

Oops. I voted "Noble or lower, huts and/or events OFF", when I meant to vote "Noble or lower, huts and/or events ON".
- :o

I didn't know you could increase the rate to 10%. How would I go about doing that?

I would have left the Barb uprisings in but I use a Mod that actually has the Huns, Goths, Vedic Aryans, and the other Barbs as Civ choices and well I decided they were to much when the Vedic Aryans wiped out the Vedic Aryans in one game I had a while back.

Bermuda though had to go what with having power as destructive as the Tsunami event which by default is off and which I left off.

Emperor and always on, I enjoy the buzz of the surprise in a hut, good or bad.

I play on Emperor/Immortal and I have events on and huts off.

Events add a lot to the game, though it can be annoying to get tests and then three forest fires in a row at the begining of the game. Sometimes I rage at them and turn them off for a while but in general I like them.

At higher levels where the computer starts with two scouts there's no point in having huts - you wont get any anyway. Getting Astronomy from a hut on an newly found island can be fun though. :p

EraInfo.xml has the %age per turn by era of events happening. As usual, save a copy first before tinkering. You can technically set it to 100% for a truly random game.

Spoiler :
I turned tsunami on. Recurring...

Monarch, usually huge/marathon unless I'm doing an OCC.

no huts, no random events, no tech trading, no vassals, no global warming nonsense

Monarch, standard sized fractal map, random leader, huts and events both on.

I think that huts and events add a little unpredictability to the game, forcing me to adapt my strategy on occasion.

I usually play nobel and keep them on. It keeps each game interesting an unique.

I raise the difficulty level by placing restrictions upon myself, such as selcting the next tech according to lowest cost rather than strategic considerations, no wonders, no starting wars, no hut popping, etc. etc.

Ahhhh yes the legendary Nobel difficulty. It has all of the benefits for the AIs as the get in Deity and the only military units you can build are Warriors, Grenadiers, SAM Infantry, Mobile SAMs, Tanks, and Modern Armor. And of course you must pursue a peaceful Victory condition (Culture, Diplomatic, Time) and you are not allowed to declare war on anyone ever (though if someone declares on you your allowed to wipe them out).

I play Monarch, everything on with my own mod (which delays the barbarian uprising events and adds several more).
