Hyborem crash bug reports/search for cause of bug

I really wish this would garner some more attention. Sheim are my favorite race to play and as far as I can tell in .31D MP at least they are unplayable. I need to do a game on quick I guess and see how far I get on single player.

I've had a look to see if I could find anything, but none of the games posted so far crash for me. It may well be the same for some of the others.

The last 4 saves posted by Xal and myself were the result of OOSing after we disabled Hyborem and Basium.

Only with Hyborem enabled did we get CTD's. I will try doing a single player game on quick. Maybe it's something on my end that causes it and when I CTD it makes the other's CTD. Maybe someone can continue our MP and take my spot and play with my friend and see if it CTD's for them.

There's a lot of tests that can be done but I saw other people posting here saying they had Hyborem CTD's. Either way something is going on and I hope it get's resolved because I personally think Sheim are the most unique and entertaining Civ in FFH2.

Plus I don't want to get 15 hours into my AAR and find out I can't finish the game lol.

Id be interested in any single player save that crashes consistently. We have a pretty good history of getting those resolved. But multiplayer saves arent of much use to me.

welcome back Kael :)

I did have saves earlier but people kept not having the crashes, although initially people couldn't load the saves. I fixed that by doing a reinstall and making sure the patch was on there. Well, it's largely because most people aren't experiencing this crash while those that are, apparently have vista. but I really don't get how vista could possibly cause the crash with a particular piece.

Hope you guys can figure this out because the code probably has to be looked at.

I know I asked on the previous page, but does anybody have the origional customfunctions? because I deleted the origional when I decided to use the second modified customfunctions Sto had us try. I also want to see if it still crashes anyway with the origional.

Have you tried to turn off sounds and reduce graphics to the maximum , remove extra options like health bar etc ...

Tcho !

Yea I tried those options with no change.

After about 15 reloads (not kidding) I got about 5 turns and then the crashes stopped (still got the occasional one about every 10 turns or so and auto save helped there). I wonder if it had to do with any world spells or events trying to take place with the AI.

Im actually starting to think its DirectX. What version are you using? You can use "dxdiag" to determine your directX version.

I have DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904).

Yeah, Im wondering it DirectX 10 isnt the issue. BtS is having similiar problems and FfH is going to be so much more graphically intence than normal BtS. Especially once flames start showing up. Are you willing to install DirectX 9.0c on Vista?

Yes I am but is there any way I could keep DX 10 for my other games and just use 9.0c for FFH? Also I am not sure if my vid card requires DX 10

I dont know the answer to those questions. You will be the guinea pig going into uncharted territory. I wish I could test on my own rig but I dont have Vista.

10-4 I will try it out tomarrow once I get off work and beat my kids into submission =) humm maybe a sick day is in order, it worked when I had the Halo 3 flu...!!!

(may haps this is a good time to donate to Kaels ongoing FFH testing in the name of bug zapping so that he can get his mits on a buggy Vista system) for just pennies a day....

Looks like both of our computers have similarities such as the OS, almost the same vid card (yours is a slightly different model), exactly the same amount of RAM (I would guess yours is also a laptop). But there are enough differences to rule out any definite system issues. If you want the full DXdiag, let me know.

Well since I'm also a Vista user, I'll toss up my DXdiag info as well:

Confirmed SP crash also Vista Also DX 10 -- no UAC.

The Appcrash lists civ version as 3.0.0.1 can anyone confirm that it should show that and not 3.13 or something like that?

Going to test save out on my xp machine and start a new one on vista with no hell terrain.

smjjames want to take the plunge with me and see if we can both totally wreck our computers with DirectX 9.0c? Before I do this I am going to search the net for further info on how/if this is even a workable possibility. So far some say it is ok while others say that DX 10 is too woven into the fabric of Vista's systems to remove it.

I tried running BtS in XP compatibility mode but it would not recognize that I actually had the CD in the drive when I did that. If you can see if you can run yours in XP compatibility mode and let us know if that does anything...
