Title says it all really. I'm not sure what made them think that changing feature X would be acceptable, but I can already tell it will end in tears. Hopefully they come to their senses and fix this debacle in the expansion. Or at least provide an option so you can play with feature X the old way. What do you all think, is this mistake going to kill Civ V?

absolutely it will kill civ V

Clearly the new design team just never appreciated how important feature X was to CivIV's gameplay. Unless they announce that feature X will be reintroduced into the game at some point before release, I will be boycotting this game

I hope that they allow Feature X to be hotglued to the game. . .

. . .even though the game was balanced and playtested from start to finish without feature X. . .

Most of all, I plan to hate the game as much as possible before I actually try it. This will enable my good friend cognitive dissonance to shield me from the possibility that it will actually turn out to be fun.

Indeed, feature X will ensure that I keep playing cIV forever. Feature Y that they're adding to ciV is completely unrealistic and I will surely be unable to suspend any disbelief, making it impossible to play.

Oh, come on! Really? Feature Y is fun! If you wanna be all backwords, fine, the rest of us will be having fun in the future with our fun games not being bogged down by your stupid "realism."

"I plan to spend ages trying to design intricate graphics of Byzantine vs Ottoman city set architecture, while I don't even play the actual Civilization games for fun and don't care to really post anything on this board besides discussion of said Asia Minor history and art."

I do think this misrepresents many, but not all arguments though, because civ V really does appear to be making some drastic changes, some of which are also welcomed. For the record though I would say the best answer is that, even if you're disappointed with supposed out of the box features: "I want to continue to learn/improve my Python (insert civ V's new language + SDK) coding skills so I can make my own civ IV/V mod anyway."

Not only was feature X the best thing in Civ4, but Civ5 will be ruined because they included feature Y. Who would possibly think feature Y is any fun?

I will simply mod in feature X and out feature Y.

Without Feature X, they may as well just make Civ into a first person shooter!

Leaving feature X out will make it impossible to mod back in. They totally screwed up CiV because even mods could not reintroduce feature X. Sad day... sad day indeed.

Frankly replacing Feature X with Feature Y is just one step back and one step forward.

They Really need to drastically overhaul the idea with Features T and Q and so that the concepts and gameplay of Both X and Y can be in and actually not be annoying micromanagement.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I'm coming to realize that restricting the features to just 26 things was a really dumb decision.

Feature X is da bomb! Civ's a dud without it.

Feature Y has always been superior to feature X but people won't appreciate that until the game has been out for a few months. Feature X died in the 90s people. This isn't Civ II with feature W, after all.
