I always played on pangaea maps but I thought I would try continents for the change. i got tired of starting with 4 civs on my continent so I thought it would work better to try Archis for a while to get some room to grow quietly. I have tried this 4 times and every time I get a huge landmass with 4 civs. I did get tired of getting "continental" pangaeas so why not? :scan:

What is wrong with this stupid map generator - does it not read its own programming.:wallbash:

You could always start with the map editor and and use the random map generator there. Assign yourself your favorite starting location, or re-generate if you hate the map. When you have one with a suitable starting location, save it and load it for your game.

How much water? You might try cutting that a bit. 60% archi can look an awful lot like a stringy continent.

Otherwise, you're just having bad luck.

Darski has notorious luck.

I gave up on the whole archipelago thingy and decided to go back to my pan maps again.

Here's your pangaea for you...

Funny thing is that this is what I had in mind for an archi map.

Hey what terrain mod is that? I would like to try it!

Watercolor terrain I believe?

Do my eyes deceive me or is that city named Aabrax? :D

Darski, do you have MapFinder? Also, have you tried DW's suggestion that you increase the amount of water?

I always name my Capitols after you. Partly because I really enjoy your stories and partly for the reason you do; it keeps the capitol at the top of the list. I often will adapt the title to match the Civ title but always with an "Aabr" beginning.

I can't make mapfinder work. I haven't tried on the new comp but the old one could not store possibles.

I also did try using less water but it is hit or miss. I am also not a fan of those stringy land masses. I once had one where it took knights 10 turns to go from my core to the fight zone. that is 60 tiles of many one-tiled sections.

i am thinking I should maybe go up to a standard map with Archis to see if that gets me my own space.

 You just can't catch a break, can you?

I can't believe this cheating stupid game. I just had a Reg Immortal take out 5 knights, med infantry and AC. I cannot believe this! an unfortified reg unit ( Immortal be damned) can take out 5 major units and barely get killled by the 6th (red-lined) unit. This is CRAP of the first order - I am just about ready to toss this stupid game but it would reduce the value of my garbage to do it!

Is he up a mountain over a river or just bad luck with the RNG?

Just Really, Really bad RNG luck.

he was on grass and unfortified.

I've had luck like that. Normally if something survives 2-3 attacks that should've killed it, I either resign myself to proving that attacker need a 5:1 advantage to win, or go attack something else for a while to make the RNG forget that I'm attacking its girlfriend.

at that point, my other option was a V immortal on forest. I figured I would never get anywhere with that one if the Super Imm wouldn't die.

The Vet died at the first knight attack.

My favorite is losing a cavalry to a longbow, not quite :spear: but still pretty annoying...
