I Can Do Better (somewhat Open SG - Read on)

Sumeria is sci & argr, and it's likely your biggest enemy.

I wouldn't say I was wrong. Settling a city one tile away from coast is usually a bad idea because you are stuck with 2 inferior tiles. This would cancel out whatever you get by the BG, which you can leave to other cities anyway. Not even mentioning it would delay your continental contact a lot.

I hear your bad apple yapper but I was thinking an extra town may fit in and it did. If I'm not sea fararing and random I get off the coast. We're talking about the capital here. From my placement we fortunately can use the tip landmass as another town. One extra town in the first ring is a nice benefit too. Our first settler can go SE to share, with MM and grab it's own wheat and deliver a curraugh. We are at the bottom of the map on continents. How much of an advantage would it be? 10-12 turns of curraugh vs. a stronger core later. Toss up, but we are agri with wheat and a 4 turn setler factory coming up.

To the team, we are going to need to set up the second city as a military producer. I'm thinking of foregoing the rax to pump warriors for at least 5 and then going rax. Otherwise we will settle beyond a pace we can keep up with. Those mountains smell of barbs as does the tundra. Speaking of tundra, there is no need to explore there. Leave it alone. Tundra barbs are always trouble. Concentrate on the MM with all the food we have. This will be a MM exercise.

BTW, Locomotive, is your bad apple as vocal as ours. I'm thinking Noogies here.

3 wheat, a cow, silks, and 2 furs close by? This shouldn't be so bad. Not to mention all those BG's.

I wonder if the BA's interest will start to wane if he doesn't get to play for 70 turns?

The rule clarification: the wording threw me a bit there. Does that mean we'll allow one ICDB per round? i.e. someone can jump in between loco and barb every round?

This is what I thought he meant.

I can guarentee the bad apple won't be playing for a bit. We are religious so soon as we get our desired government, it will be a switch right away I would imagine. That is one turn for him there. If we go to war early with our Gallic's he may see another turn. I think most of his turns will be around the age of knights/cavs.

If we find that we have raging barbs, we will definately need one city for military only. We don't need a horde of warriors/horsemen stealing all of our $$$ and pillaging everything.

It looks like we have an initial good core, but the 2nd ring of cities are going to be looking like mountains and plains.

After a full rotation, we should decide what we are going for. Space, conquest, etc. Conquest is always the funnest, space is fun and sometimes hard to get to, and histograph can get really boring. The other two I have done a lot, but if you guys want to go for domination or culture, I am game.

I always thnk of dom as "conquest lite". :)
I also feel that, by and large, culture and histo are boring.
Space is only fun if we still have a competitor at the time.
Guess that leaves conquest as my preference...:mischief:

Will we only give the ICDB person 24 to grab it?

Grr, I didn't know these forums have a limit as to how many characters you can have. Yea, 24 sounds good. Hehe, we could alway go for Diplomatic victory, but you can cheat yourself into a win so easy that way.

Yea, I like conquest. It is nice seeing a huge green map with a little pink, red, blue sprinkled around knowing that they saw the wrong end of our sword.

On another note Sumeria and Babs have the chance to be the run-away civ in this game. Any civ could be, but from my experience, these two are the worst. Let's hope greece isn't on our continent (hoplites :(). I like early wars, not sure about you guys, but I like to gain territory fast and have my own continent.

Hey, guys I am really sorry here. But something came up, and my wife is making me get in the sunlight today  ! Next player can go ahead, and maybe you all will let me squeeze back in there somewhere. If not, I can wait till the next go around. Sorry :(

Well, that didn't last long. I'll wait for 24 so an ICDB can grab it, otherwise I'll play Sunday sometime.

BTW - 10 character minimum on all posts

EDIT: As I understood it, all skips/swaps open a window for an ICDB

I really want this to work so it will stand that people may only ever play an open game if a person says pass/skip. Currently Mauer asked for a skip and therefore it is open play, allowing 24 hours to claim starting right now.

I really should have define the rules clearly from the start so there would be few questions needed.

Just lurking, Trying to understand your rules here. So is Mauer out of the game now because he skipped. Or is he back in next time up. Sorry, trying to figure out SG's.

lurker's comment:

Looks like you guys will have 2 settler factories, along with being agricultural. How's that for rapid expansion :D.

Edit: Hmm...apparently lurker's comment: and[ /delurk] is a command now.

Mauer has the choice between a skip or a swap. Swap means he plays after this person plays, skip means he skips his turn in this rotation and comes up for the next one.

Apparently no one thinks they can do better this early in the game.

Not quite 24 hrs, but I'm gonna grab it anyhow.

"Got it" :)

EDIT - Dan-beersheba(sp?) if you want to try and figure out SG's, I don't think this is the game to do it with. This game has an odd set of rules as far as rotation goes.

The basics of an SG: A player has 24 hrs from the last player's post to say they are going to play (a got it), they then have 48 hrs from that point to play ten turns and post a log and a new save file to the thread. On to the next person.

At times, this annoying thing called "real-life" gets in the way and prevents a player from playing within the alotted time period. In this case they are skipped until the team cycles through and it goes back to them. If the person running the game so desire, the player could also be swapped, where they let the next person play, and then play after that.

As I said, this game's rules are a bit different, so I would look around the other SG's to get a feel for how it works.

Thanks GRS. Adding you to the roster now. You can go up after Sesn.

I didn't think I would get this SG off the ground at the start because I kept adding and adding things as it progressed which I really should have sat down and thought about everything and type it all at the start.

Sorry guys about the delay of game with my early skip. I think you had a typo there Sesn: real-Wife :p . Sometimes you just got to do, what you got to do. :whipped:

BTW:I haven't had a conquest win since Warlord, alooooong time ago. Roughly 2 months  . So that sounds good to me too
