I Can Do Better (somewhat Open SG - Read on)

I guess it's pretty clear we need to get some curraghs in the water too.

In less than 5 turns, we get our first Curragh out so we should be fine. This trading is horrible, though. I wouldn't be suprised if Alex found a few other people by now with his curraghs and here we are with one trading partner.

I hate to continue with the I'm a newbie rhetoric, but when my turn comes up I might need a helping hand and in-depth instuctions. As the game progresses, I may begin to think on my own :shakehead . I know it was a random map, but it looks like continents. So basically your talking about a suicide curragh, barring any passable coastal tiles?
EDIT:How about I start paying closer attention to each post!

Difficulty: Diety
Land: Continents
Land %: 70%
Random for the rest

As for the Curragh, you set sail and go around the continent. If you see coast in the distanst tiles, you try to make a leap for it.

Preturn – It’s hard to believe we are alone on this continent with 7 AI in the game. We are behind BW, Mas, Wheel, WC. Nice group of workers we have here. It’s rare to see 5 workers for 5 towns this early. Not real sure about the granary in Lugdunum. That’s a lot of early shields that could be building warriors and our lux tax may not keep up with it. The 2nd wheat in Entremont I think should have been mined to get a nice +5fpt. MM Camu to get curraugh in 4.
IT- Barb moving in.
[1] 1725 – Lux to 30%
IT – Entre-Sett>Sett, Alesia-War>War, Richborough-War>Rax
[2] 1700 – Hoping barb attacks conscript warrior on mountain. Settler heading to silks since we have furs in our tundra. Lux stays at 30% for Lugdun growth.
IT – Damn barb beats our conscript. He should attack Richborough with 2 warriors guarding.
[3] 1675 – Waiting on builds.
IT – Barb moves off to have a go at settler/4hp warrior pair.
[4] 1650 – Can’t quite figure out the settler farm. Not enough shields for 4-turn Will try to grow it twice before next settler.
[5] 1625 – Nice double fish spot for our silk settler. Lug rushes it’s granary.
[6] 1600 – Settle Verul and disturb one barb. London completes Colossus. Granary is in and goes for a worker. Sumerians have the pyramids.
[7] 1575 – Lose a warrior knocking a barb off our silks. Then kill him with another. Workers go to silks.
[8] 1550 – Defend to a barb trying to kill warriors covering silk workers. Build a settler, worker, warrior. Settler factory is working at 4-6 pop now. Think Curraugh spots a way to get across.
[9] 1525 – We’re across. Silks come online next turn. Lux to 10%.
[10] 1500 – Entremont expands and disturbs 3 barbs for next player to deal with. Build a warrior and a worker. Spot a border. Chopping Verul forest for rax build. Send new warrior to capital to defend barbs.

Being on a continent like this alone posesses a positive and a negative.

Positive: We will have a lot of cities.
Negative: Since we have only found one civilization, there are 6 unaccounted for and they could be severely ahead of us in techs.

Settler farm is:

turn 1: 2 mined bg + wheat + 1 bg + center = 6
turn 2: 2 mined bg + wheat + 1 bg + center + forest (from growth) = 8
turn 1: 2 mined bg + wheat + 2 bg + center = 7
turn 2: 2 mined bg + wheat + 2 bg + center + forest (from growth) = 9

= 30 shields. Therefore I irrigated the 2nd wheat for Lugdunum and mined the cow.

Sorry grs, I had a little trouble and thought it would be better with the extra gold. We got the North fur in the bag now. Now to consolidate our minimal northern forces with another two cities up north. Need some raxs up therefor up grading soon. Play nice with Greece and build an empire. Also, it is now easier for everyone. BTW, I just finished my RBC15e turns and was having a beer contemplating this game. I would keep the curraghs pumping from the NE town to get more contacts. Settlers pumping from Entremont for towns and warriors and hopefully spears, swords soon from all others with the worker pump flying.

Pre-turn: Just move the slider to 20% entertainment with no hostilities.

1475-Cumulodunum curragh=curragh, barbs move to Entremont, kill 2 of them w/no losses

1450-Enteremont settler=warrior, Lug worker=warrior. Push the slider back to 30%. Found Gergovia near furs and gain 50g from hut. Make contact with the English (cannot contact the blue border). English are up with greece on techs. I get BW/WC for 313g = 1gpt.

IBT-America builds the Oracle

1425-Alesia builds a warrior, MM to get a settler in 5. Get 25g from barb camp. Also lose a warrior to barb camp N of Verulanium.

1400-Entremont war=settler, Lug war=worker. Found Augustdorum set to worker. Move lux back to 20%

1375-AAAHHH! lose another warrior to barb camp N of Verulanium.

1350-Rich builds barracks=war, Comulodum curr=barracks, lux back to 30%

1325-Alesia settler=war, lug worker=war

1300-Entremont sett=warrior. Make contact with Germany and surprise, surprise they are even with the others in tech. Every one wants 8gpt and 126g for IW.

1275-Germany has a monopoly on writing but won't trade. See 2 greek archers and a barb approaching our fur city. Maybe this would be a good time to make a per turn deal with Greece(edit: for IW), because I don't know if they are barb hunting or planning on attacking us  .

I think I should have built a few more warriors than what I did. I was kind of nervous about making per turn deals this early in the AA, but we are way behind in techs.

Nah, you did good. I really think we should get Iron Working now, though. I think we probably have iron in one of the dozen of mountains, but there is a chance we don't. Plus, if we keep falling behind so much in techs, war is the only way to get us back in.

I wouldn't worry too much about those greeks coming to our city. Our cities are 2-3 tiles apart which means in two turns we can have over 3-4 extra men in it.

How are we going to work the next set of turns? Are we going to try and expand by the way of (A) or (B)?

I see it and I'll get to this in a bit.

EDIT: Expand towards A. Towards the ai is better, as we can backfill pretty easily later.
