I Can Do Better (somewhat Open SG - Read on)

IIRC microbe is not allowed moving units anyways.

Well, the way I understand it, that's kind of true. Microbe is allowed one action. If he moves a single unit, that is his action. I think what Microbe is more concerned about is the ability to disband units, which can only be done when a unit has at least some movement points left.

BTW - I don't agree with the end of GA thing either. However, I imagine if someone pops two leaders during their turn, he would get two actions.

Okay, the rules are final now. This really bothers me changing the rules on the spot so much. Makes me feel disorganized.

Stopping now, sorry.

I cant see a good reason for us to attack Greece and trigger our GA. We can produce a lot of settlers, but we will have no chance to use them in the nw while in war. We do not have a military - as normal warriors cant be counted against hoplites. I could upgrade 4 warriors (2 of the vet, 2 regular). So we'd be at war with 5 gaelic, 2 elite war. and 3 spears. I do not see us reaching anything and we will have to make peace soon - probably paying more. We trigger the bad apple while we are still in exploring and expansion and I would like to avoid that.

Sorry to post this that late, but a thorough look at the save really got me thinking. We can produce settlers now, settle near the Greek iron to block it and claim more land. Alex will make peace for 140 gold, we can attack after building gaelics, spears and settlers for 20 turns - we need some barracks near the greek front too. Our uu would still be very usefull then - even deity Alex will not get to muskets till then.

Sorry again for getting this in so late, but I would really like to hear some more convincing argument for staying at war, while I see nothing positive coming from it.

Yea, having Microbe pop up during this time wouldn't be the best of ideas. Plus, like you said the amount of Gallics we have is almost useless. I want to see at least 3 cities burn before peace is made. If that cannot be done, then continue with builder turns.

On another note, when your turn eventually does arrive Microbe, I will edit the title of this sg with the word 'Microbe' in it so you know it is your turn.

Good thoughts. I concur. Keep the suicide boats floating too. If we can get the other contacts we'll be sitting pretty.

PreTurn: we make peace with Alex for 140 gold; Lugdunum gets a temporary taxman - not losing anything; upgrade vet warriors or move them towards barracks, change builds to barracks, gaelics and curraghs
IBT: we lose a curragh to barbs
975BC: start to build workers again - we need many more; trade 19gpt + 10g to England for writing; trade writing for mysticism, masonry and 180g to Greece; start max on philosophy; gaelics moved south to train with barbs
950BC: we get an elite gaelic; reshuffle garrison - lux to 0% sci to 100% and philosophy in 5
IBT: Americans complete the hanging gardens - there is a continent with the rest of the AI and they are advanced
925BC: lose a curragh
IBT: Sumerians complete ToA - see last IBT
900BC: movement
IBT: lose another curragh
850BC: Lapurdum founded
IBT: Alex demands 21g - here you are <space> we learn philosophy first and get literature for free; English complete The Great Wall; lose a 3rd curragh to treacherous waters a 4th in total
825BC: Ratae Coritanorum founded - iron blocked; research turned off again
IBT: lose a curragh to barbs - why not!?
800BC: we meet Sumeria, they miss writing and are up maths, horse and poly; Tolosa founded
IBT: we get two more elites and lose another curragh
775BC: movement
IBT: nothing, oh I forgot - lost a curragh
750BC: movement

what I'd do:
please mm towns! especially Lugdunum and Entremont need constant care and should produce a settler or two worker in 4
disperse the barb camps, or we will get an uprising near our capital soon
dont upgrade the garrison regular warriors - every size 5 town needs 2 and we can go size six with the furs online
heal and train gaelic in the south and settle the area
there are 2 settlers in place where I would found cities

trades possible:

I monitored Sumeria and especially Germany and England for tech trades (see below). None is researching the techs we are up right now, but it could chance fast. As I lost our last curragh (7 in total) it is not probable we get new contacts sooner that they will get our techs, so I'd trade now, but didnt want to on my last turn.

Sumeria: (constant since 2 turns)
writing +8g for mathematics
Germany & England: (constat since 3 turns)
philosophy + 1gpt +16 (or 2gpt) for map making
literature + 18 (or 1gpt) for map making
Alex:
cash for tech

Sumeria is will be down mm, lit and poly so we could get a lot techs for just writing + philo or lit.

Sumerian borders are on the west edge of the map:

Good trades GRS. Yea, let's discuss what we shall do for trades.

The question is, is there a chance to complete the Great Library before anyone else? I don't think it is worth trying and could probably get ourselves up in techs by doing some heavy trading involving Literature + our other techs. I think going for Map Making is the best choice and from there on, anything is game.

gl = 10 gaelics - I'd rather have the latter. We wont get it in time anyways. Agree on mm as it is tradable to Summerians.

Good trades GRS. Yea, let's discuss what we shall do for trades.
Sorry if this is just my sense of the english language missing here, but it sounds like you think I traded - I did not - just made some observations.

Good trades was referring to this: "975BC: start to build workers again - we need many more; trade 19gpt + 10g to England for writing; trade writing for mysticism, masonry and 180g to Greece; start max on philosophy; gaelics moved south to train with barbs
950BC: we get an elite gaelic; reshuffle garrison - lux to 0% sci to 100% and philosophy in 5."

Yea, let's discuss what we shall do for trades refer to what we can trade for now. It was lazy English grammar on my part by not specifying my remarks to a particular sentence.

We need to get across to the other civs. Keep curraughs rolling. It is our lynchpin in the AA. We can take the lead if we meet the others. The GL is a gambit do we take it? Look at save brfore voting. We need settlers and swords. If Greece do not have iron I say GL all the way. Otherwise I like the kick the Greek tail off our continent.
BTW, I still have to look at save before voting.
However, if Locomotive feels it, make the play.

Sorry, more than one SG takes alot of time :) . Sure would be nice to get the GL, but in my mediocre experience it just takes too long, and too many shields. I say hope greeks, england or germany builds it, apply the would have been shields to military and take the GL and their land. I know AA golden age sucks, and there is somewhat of a limited timeframe to actually get it with our UU, but would be nice to save it untill we at least catch up in tech. Or after anarchy. Just my thoughts though.

If we have a 10+ shield city, in time, that doesn't affect our settler expansion, I'm in. If not I would rather find the other civs. Keep searching.

I'm with Barbslinger, if it still matters. If we can use a city that isn't pumping settlers, especially if it's on a river, then go ahead. If not, then just keep the galleys coming and claim as many cities as possible, while gearing up for Greece.
