I Can Do Better (somewhat Open SG - Read on)

BTW, that is a warrior settler pair NE of Verulanium. I wasn't sure if you guys wanted him on that spot, or up by the river.

Mapstat says:
Greece:430g, Mas, Wheel, IW, Myst
England:313g, Mas, WHeel, IW, Myst
Germany:30g, Mas,Wheel, IW, Myst, Writing

If we could somehow get that gold from Alex and Liz, then we could probably get writing to trade for the rest of techs. Not sure if this is possible though.
I was just thinking that if Greece is gonna attack us, then they either A)might not because of the GPT deal, or B)attack anyways canceling the deal and getting a free tech at that :)

If they are going to attack, let them initiate the attack. We will get some happiness and then if we have to, we can buy IW from Germany or England, keep science at 0%, upgrade all of our warriors to swordmen, pump out swordmen, and attack.

EDIT: I honestly don't think they will attack us because the AI only attacks if we are on a resource that they cannot claim and there it is no where around or there is no room left to build. Then again, we may be sitting on the only source of iron or horses.

Double Edit: hehe. If a war does happen, we simply take out all of their tiny garbage cities, demand peace with some techs included and there we have it. Back in the tech race.

you mean gallics right?

Haha, yea.

<----- Only played with the Celts once since this game came out.

On the Gallic note, it will be like we have horses when and if we attack Greece. Considering our UU is AA type unit, an early attack would be good.

This would be great. Then Microbe would get a chance to be a rotten fig.

If it looks like Greece is going to attack try to set up GPT deals for tech and then demand they leave. Those hoplites will be too tough until we get some Gallics, so I would look at it being a defensive war early. Keep the suicide curraughs coming if possible. We need all the contacts to be a power broker. If we can get the suicide contacts we would be right back in this in a jiffy.
Also, I like expansion north too.

Were the curragh routes I started on ok? I sent one around the N side of England. One on the S side of Germany, and the other one down towards our S to get on our W side of the Island.

You are all very fast, you know?
Wednesday is my day off :)

Considering where you sent the curraghs led to two civs, then your route is perfectly fine. I really hope that Germany/England start to settle around Greeks homeland.

The reason I feel we need to keep pumping boats is that we will lose some to suicide. We should have a continuous stream heading to murky blue.

Yep agreed Barbslinger. Knowing the way of continents, there is most likely another one or two completely out of reach from us. The only way we will be getting to it, is by A LOT OF LUCK and losing a lot in the process. The AI never tries suicide attempts so if we make contact with the remaining civs, we are looking at AMAZING tech prices until navigation.

IHT – The very first thing I see when I open the game is our capitol making a warrior. :nono: What happened to the whole settler factory thing? By hiring a clown in Lugdunum, I can drop the luxury rate down to 10%, netting us an extra 7gpt. I don’t really think the Greeks are coming for us, as there is a barb visible, but we shall see.

Also, current turn is 69, so I’ll play one extra to get back on track.

IT – Greeks move right at Gergovia, could be bad.

1250 bc (1) – Alesia warr -> spear. Rich warrior -> spear. Agedincum founded. Ship Greece 43g and 24 gpt for IW + Wheel, as their troops could attack in the interturn. Pull our workers out of harm’s way. Tell Greece to withdraw, and they don’t. We have two sources of iron within our borders, and two more within reach. We don’t have any horses. Greece has no visible iron, but two horses. Warrior in Gergovia rl killing reg archer. Gergovia will fall.

IT – Gergovia burns. “They should pay dearly for this atrocity”. And indeed they will.

1225 bc (2) – Entremont worker -> settler. Camo curragh -> curragh. Veru rax -> spear.

1200 bc (3) – August worker -> archer. Disperse Khazak camp. Disperse Samartin camp. Germany still won’t budge on Writing.

IT – Vet warrior flawlessly defeats reg archer, promotes. Defeats vet archer, -2hp.

1175 bc (4) – Send settler and escorts off to claim iron near Greece.

IT – Greece founds Ephesus to claim fourth iron, but they’ll have to wait for a border expansion to get it.

1150 bc (5) - Alesia spear -> spear. Lug rax -> warrior.

IT – Defending explorer warrior wins vs reg archer, but is rl.

1125 bc (6) – Entremont settler -> settler. Iron connected.

IT – We lose the exploring warrior. Greek hoplite moves into view.

1100 bc (7) - Lug warrior -> gallic. Camul curragh -> curragh. Verul warrior -> curragh. Lose a suicide curragh. Eboracum founded to claim third iron.

1075 bc (8) – Alesia spear -> gallic. Rich spear -> spear. Palace expansion. Germany will talk about writing, but they want everything we’ve got.

IT – Curragh defeats a barb galley.

1050 bc (9) – Burdigala founded on Gergovia’s ruins. Alex will talk now, but straight up peace is insulting. We’ll see about that…

IT – Curragh gets rl defeating second barb galley.

1025 bc (10) – Entre settler -> settler. We get the FP message. Lose another suicide curragh. Pull gallic out of Alesia, as that is where the hoplite currently is, and I don’t want to trigger a GA w/o a bit of discussion. Curragh sees a sizable barb camp to the SW of Lug. 4 horse and 2 warrior currently reside there.

1000 bc (11) – Alex still wants 140g for peace. England has writing now, and we can buy from either civ for all of our cash on hand.

Recap – Greece is not sending much at us after the initial few archers, which is a bit surprising, given their discounts. I would not be in a rush to buy writing. I held off on using the gallics, as I didn’t want to trigger a GA yet. Although if we wait too long to trigger it, we will lose the inherent advantage that they give us. The two temple builds are placeholders, I couldn’t decide what I wanted in those towns. Entremont will have to be MM’d next turn. Don’t change the settler in Lugdunum, or our granary will be emptied.

EDIT: There is a settler in Agedincum that I had intended for the coastal plains tile on the other side of the river, to the NW.

I vote we trigger the GA. I would like to see the Greeks town Esphesus burned and have us lay claim to all the iron. Even more, I think we can take out at least 3 out of the 4 cities on the above map. Hoplites are hard to kill this early on, but with the extra movement points of our gallics, we can get new ones into battle asap.

I also think we should place two curraghs on both sides of our continent, so when Greece, England, and Germany do discover Map Making, they won't go around them.

Good set of turns by the way. Nothing I see that says, "you should have done this or that."

Roster
Barbslinger
Mauer
Sesn
GRS - up
Locomotive - on deck

EDIT: This is a very lop-sided map. I was kind of hoping for a map with 3 per continent and resources spread out a little more.

My thought was to trigger the GA as well. I would think that four gallics per town could do significant damage, allowing us soom room, and a pointy-stick oppurtunity.

It would also at least give us a chance to get an MGL, so we could rush the FP somewhere. The new towns I built are very corrupt.

BTW - Thanks for the back handed compliment.

Yea, I am a very special type of complimenter. :)

Edit: Despotism GA isn't something I like to trigger, but as we have it we are behind with a chance to get back into the game quite quickly. On an even more positive note, this will trigger Greece's GA and we will get more $$$ when we raze cities. :)
