I Can Do Better (somewhat Open SG - Read on)

Yes, we should stay in monarchy for some time, if we change it at all - it's not a bad government, just republic is better. Our preference should be to get "our" island under control; it is really huge for only 2 civs. If we can do that, we will be pretty much on the right track, but with this beeing deity we can expect the Greeks to have a tremendous number of units.

@microbe: Lol, that really was a good timing. Did you click on what is highlighted, or pressed the button one above it?

I clicked on the highlighted one. I didn't want to simply be hated. I want to be both hated and loved. :)

LOL! Good turn Microbe. Its a shame though that they didn't have Feudalism yet.

lurker's comment: I am just a lurker in this game. If Microbe switches us to Feudalism in our Wondergame, then he will be severly punished! :hammer:

Not sure if I told him to switch to Feudalism in our 5 in 1 game though...maybe I should double-check his variants there.

Well it looks like our GA will be spent building Gallics and markets. My plan was to hopefully raze and replace the Knossos horse town and then defend the initial wave of swords, hopefully get a leader, and go pillage his iron. If we can extend this war, with the war happiness, and get his iron pillaged we should be able to take him out within 40 turns. Since we hold the broker position now and should find the other AI's once we get across to Sumeria we should have little trouble keeping up in tech.

So, should I take the time to start some markets, or should we just focus on gallics? I know GA is a good time to get some markets done, but I think a) were probably seriously outnumbered atm, and b)those hops are gonna take down some gallics. Maybe I should focus our high production cities on some more gallics. Before I raze some cities (and eyebrows) am I to start Enteremont back on settlers? Sorry about the slow posting, but I am off tomorrow, and should have this done probably later tonight.

I love cats in AW for defensive purposes. If you can pop a few cats to brace for the upcoming Greek assault that would be nice. Especially for knocking down the inevitable hoplite that will come to try and pillage. The city they are concentrating on has a mountain we should hold. If you can cash rush some walls there we are 68% favorite on defense against vet, 80% against regs. Not too shabby. We would be 55% favorite on attack against vet and 70% against reg. If you can get a road on the mountain so we can attack with our gallics or can spare gallics to get more on the mountain our odds increase to 66%,78%. Cats would certainly help here. Our mountain GS is a 71% favorite against a vet, 82% against a reg. You might want another spear up there, or better yet 2 spears. Keep your eyes peeled on the eastern front. Troy could send something south to our NE coast town.
If the galleys get across to Sumeria I would stop galley production and focus on GS and occasional spears. On the markets I would alternate and partial rush them. I don't think we libraries and markets set up yet enough to do any real research on diety and we will have to rely on 2'fers with our contacts and cash deals for a while. Use that cash for partial rushes once there is at least 1 shield in the box.

Again sorry for the delay. Not too much to say about the save. Can't really nitpick the bad apple anyways, huh :) . Except that Greece's Iron supply is under Corinth way up N. Can't really cut that off. Switch Enteremont to settler. I built alot. If you want to know exactly what and which turn I will post it. Otherwise, just picture GS and cats ;) .

1)330BC The galley near Arabia seems to be heading S towards the bottom of the map, so I send it back N. Move the gallic stack, near Knossos, towards Troy to take it. Sumeria has Monotheism, no trade.

2)310 Send suicide towards Sumeria. Move the elite GS at the bottom of the map towards the front lines. Sack Troy (2 hops) w/no losses.

3)290 I hurried the barracks in Ratae cause it was gonna take too dang long.

4)270 Not a whole lot, just greek troop movements, and see a blue border N of Arabia.

5)250 Contact America and they are up mono and fued (no trade). And apparently they are at war with the arabs. See a red border right next to an american city.

6)230 Contact babylon and they are down: math, lit, and republic

7)210 Pretty boring war w/greeks so far. Sack Ephesus, lose 1GS to 4 hops.

8)190 Found Segusio just south of Old Troy. Start barracks. Clear out 4 warriors, 5 archers, and 1 sword on the mountain range N of Burdigala. No losses.

9)170 Nothing I guess, didn't write anything.

10)150 several troops prepositioned for next player (see pic) 3 settlers on the way.

Afterthoughts: The Greeks are way up on is in culture. No sense in capturing cities IMHO. We could use the slaves in the jungle/marshes anyways. We really need to get some more cities, cause our unit cost is sky high. Even under Monarchy. I would suggest maybe peace with Alex after razing Knossos. Right now he will give us: Halicarnassus, Herakleia and 1G for peace. I do have to say that the RNG really sucked. Well sort of. I didn't lose very many units at all, but I had ALOT of elite wins and no GL  . We are in a good spot to be a tech broker, but either nobody has money, or they just won't trade their techs.

I think that's mine.

If so, I should be able to pick it up tomorrow.

Actually, I'll change my suggestion. I think we should continue w/war. At least untill we start getting uncontrollable WW. We have like 31 gallics, and more being built. We just need to keep settlers coming, which I don't think I have any building right now. Also, I could have attacked Knossos in 150 (notice 8 fortified GS's). But maybe wait untill next turn, when you can use the cats, and other 3 GS's. Your decision.

I would like to see Knossos, Sparta, and Athens removed before peace is initiated. Their palace will get warped to the north and there will be a very little chance of flipping. If a leader pops, please use it on forbidden palace. We are becomining very spread out.

If the Greeks are not able to really mount an attack I would continue the war for both the war happiness and getting more cities. I wouldn't stop until he is left with just some crap fringe towns, and perhaps even clear him out. I concur with Locomotives assessment on what we still need to do. Both a well placed FP and an army with only 2 units in it, for naval transport, would be nice.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Leader pop = microbes turn. Do you think a leader would still remain in the game if Microbe had a chance to disband it? Forbidden palace is something that can be kept, hopefully.

Agree with barbslinger: continue the war as long as we benefit from it. The more we get from our isle the better. Raze and resettle seems to be the way as Mauer suggested.

Sadly I see both settler factories down again :( Please have a look at size 6 cities that need an aqueduct (e.g. Augustodorum). I think in 90% of all cases lux is better then specs. Please dont use specs if we have 0% lux.

Of course the 1st leader goes to a FP but I would really like to see it, hopefully a little further N. If, and when, the leader pops; the player still plays out his turns though, correct? So the leader could wait until his 10th turn to decide? Or does the play stop at that point?
