I still play Civ III Gold, probably played 250 games on three different computers. And this past week, I can no longer build my civilization's unique units. Any idea why this would happen?

I got Conquests for Christmas from my son, and I loaded that on the computer back in January. I had a problem with that version, I cannot remember now what it was, but I have played several games the past four months.

What could be causing this and how do I fix...

We'll start with the "level 1 tech support" answers: You're aware some units require a certain tech and/or strategic resources? Make sure you have the prerequisite tech, and make sure any required strategic resources are available to the city that wants to build the UU. Sometimes a resource or a city may be cut off from the rest of the trade network by a war or an enemy/barb galley.

Next--and I'm not certain of the details here--if your UU is obsolete, meaning the upgraded unit is available, and you've already had your Golden Age, I think the UU is no longer available to build, like warriors when you learn IW and have iron.

Last, do you use mods? If you've modded the game you might have inadvertently messed up the civ you're playing.

Thanks, but this is more of a technical glitch sort of question. I am aware that I need specific resources / advances to build UUs. But I was playing a Persian game, I got iron, had it coming into my cities and could not build the Immortal. I then tried with some civs that have stone age type UUs like the Zulus and the Greeks and could not build those UUs as well.

I hesitate to delete the game and re-install because, to be honest, I don't want to lose my Hall of Fame....

Your Hall of Fame is a text file. You could copy it someplace, uninstall, reinstall and then put it back.
