I can't build heroes or cultural units anymore

Hi,

I have recently downloaded v43 and its patch 43.1 and I've run into this problem. It is normally my strategy to collect as many cultures as possible - and I'll admit, I use World Builder to place Local Culture and National Culture from the start as I really, really dislike the mechanics for Continental Cultures of the last few versions- in order to build numerous heroes and mainly settle them as Great Generals or Nobles so that I get awesome troops and numerous Great People. However, in the new game I am currently playing I can build those cultures and do, but don't get access to my beloved heroes and cultural units. I can't find the answer to this conundrum in the Civilopedia. Is it not possible to build them until later in the game in this version? I am currently about halfway through the Ancient Era. It may or may not be important that I have installed the Megapack modmod.
Thanks for any useful answers.

I'd also like to say that, so far, I otherwise really like V43. I love seeing AI build their cities faster and with, apparently, more rhyme and reason to it, for example. Thanks for all the work and all the pleasure it has given me over the years, modders!

Define "can't".
Not showing as available when they should (as in, the required tech is already researched, and you actually checked it in the Pedia)?
Not showing even as UN-available (as in, when you "show hidden units" via the left-most button in the city)? This one may be due to lacking RESOURCES, I guess.
Are you sure you SHOULD be able at the point you are now?
Because Ancient is... pretty early to expect MANY hero units, unless you mean you built (aka cheated) ALL relevant cultures.
Maybe show us a save AND a screenshot of the city unit-building screen?

Thanks for the reply:
This is the deal:
- I have built the relevant culture and technology (for example, I have Huron and the required Prehistoric tech for Huron Mantlet, but it does not show up. Similarly, I have built Aboriginal culture but have not got Mungo Man (its Hero). Both used to be available during the Prehistoric Era in my earlier games and I don't see in Civilopedia why they should not be available now.
They do show up as non-buildable, even if the culture is available. I have included a screenshot. Here you can see that, for example, Jade Axeman shows up as non-available, apparently because I do not have Lianghzu Culture...however, you can see at the left that Lianghzu has been built in this very city! At this stage in the game, I certainly have the technology for Jade Axeman so that is not the problem.
- Like I said, I use World Builder (yes, cheat), in order to have cultural units available from early on. I didn't place the relevant cultures using World Builder, but I did place the resources and the required Continental Cultures.
Sorry, I don't know how to show you a save.
Do you have an idea what might have happened here?

Two options:
1. Bad installation somehow.
2. You don't have the "culture resource" somehow.
Not sure how I can help you, but you can [Attach files] a save, check for the latest one in (Saves>Single>Auto) for the most recent [AutoSave] one.

The first hero unit Mungo Man need desert and kangaroo and (Oceanian C.Ac and C.L)

:king:If u want to have as more UUs as possible,u need a capital like this. The other resouces put in rest cities.

In the very early era, animal resources except guinea pig are more important than vegetable resources.Put all terrain and feature within capital 3 ring. Then u wont miss any culture.Caution:8 continental races buildings are all needed.

This isn't what he's talking about.
Dunno why he hasn't replied and/or posted a SAVE for me look into, though.

Back again, thanks for the replies so far. I didn't have the time to reply in the last few days, sorry for the delay.
I have now included the latest autosave. Hopefully that will be helpful. Thanks in advance for any help with my particular problem.

Oops, I'm using SVN, so it's save-breaking for older saves.
Still, you CAN show us a similar screenshot to the one above, but also showing us available cultural resources on the RIGHT.
If the "culture resource" (in that case: Liangshu) is there, I have no idea what's wrong (nothing should be).
If it's NOT there, still no idea WHY, but that clearly IS the problem.
You can also go to WorldBuilder and open the city's Data that shows all the present resources, and check whether it's ON, as well.
Would be useful, if you show us screenshots of BOTH things.

I have done as you instructed and have provided screenshots in the attachments. The cultures I have built are not visible, in either the city screen or the World Builder. Odd! In the buildings part of World Builder, I have also checked the culture boxes. All of the ones I wanted have been checked as 'on', so that should not be a problem either. I guess we're down to 'bad installation, somehow' but in case someone still has an idea how to solve this, I won't reinstall my game just yet.

I really don't see a better solution.
Because after building the culture AND adding it in WB, you should definitely have it available.
So it's clearly a bug, though I don't understand its nature.
Are we sure there are no hidden "game (or BUG) options" that disable cultural units, eh?
I don't recall any, but I never tried changing anything of this sort, so I may have just overlooked them.

Anyone else - any ideas?

he add the culture by WB,but actually the city cannot meet the needs(asian, jade resouce within 3 ring)

check if u have every one of these

SMciv: I didn't add them manually in World Builder, I actually built them after giving myself access to them.

I've done the following:
- I started a new game. In it, the same problem occurred.
- I then uninstalled and re-installed Caveman2Cosmos and restarted my new game: I could then build the hero I should be able to after test-adding the requirements in World Builder.
- I then re-installed the No Longitude, No Latitude mod: no problem once again.
- Subsequently, I re-installed the Megapack and put it into the Assets folder. No problem either. However, the Megapack civs no longer worked and were replaced with ones from vanilla Caveman2Cosmos.
- However! When restarting my old, troubled game, the problem persisted there.
- With everything re-installed, I started another new game and added the requirements in World Builder again. This time around, the problem was back. However, I had to play a turn for everything to work just fine.
- I tried my old game again and, after getting a warning of things having to be re-calculated, everything appeared to work just fine. I could build the heroes and cultural units. However, the Megapack civs no longer worked and were replaced with ones from vanilla Caveman2Cosmos.
- I re-installed the Megapack in the regular folder of Caveman2Cosmos, where it should go. Now the problem was back.

I guess the Megapack mod fouls things up and is responsible for the mess. Really annoying, because everything works just fine with the mod installed and I love the Megapack.

I will also post this in the Megapack's own thread.

Oops! The COMPATIBLE file is actually for SVN.
Which one would work for your version... I don't even know now.
Just don't use it altogether, I guess - it's not that much of a big deal anyways.
Gonna edit my reply there as well.
