I can't find where to put great works in the civilopedia

I'm trying to retire Sun Tzu, but the option is always greyed out. It's a piece of 'writing' but the library can't take it. My palace already has a relic in it that I have no idea how it got there. The encampment buildings don't take it either. How to I retire sun tzu? The Civilopedia doesn't seem to say where you put these great works.

You have to build an entertainment district to house works outside the palace. The first building which allows great works of writing is the amphitheater.

Next to the 'great people' button (where you recruit GPs) there is a great works button. That shows you all available slots you have in each city, and what they can hold. Most cities start with relic slots, with an amphitheater you get great writing slots. Art museums give art slots, broadcast stations (or whatever they're called) give music slots, and archaeological museums give archaeology relic slots. Some wonders also hold slots for great works (Sydney Opera House for music, for eg)

Ok got it. The problem is that before you have the right structure, you have no idea what the right structure could be... writing.. library.. nope.

Culture district (theatre in this case) takes Great Works.
Religious Districts (holy site/Lavra) take Relics (temple has a slot) and Religious Art (need a specific religious building though).

Many wonders also take great works, and the best way to see that is to look at their tooltips in the tech/civic trees.

Also, look at the Great Works UI.. it shows you every slot/slot type you have in your empire. You also use that screen to move great works around to make space (*or shift around the great works so that new cities get more culture for border expansion).

The Palace can take almost all great works (no artifacts), so it's auto filled first generally. If you got a random relic, but had no temple, that's where it would go. Just get a temple, move the relic, then drop the writing GW in the palace.

On top of that:

When you have a GWAM selected (Writer, Artist, Musician) it will highlight all locations on the map where you can bring it to drop off it's WAM. Not sure the Generals also have that, as it may be confusing to see a hex highlighted if you're not planning on retiring the General.

Could anyone tell me how I get the theming boni. For writings there seem to be no boni, for works of art: same kind different artist, for music, and for mixed slots?

Thank you!

Most multi-slot buildings provide no theming bonuses. Where a theming bonus is available, it is summarized in the tooltip below the building.

only works of art have theming in art museums.

the first slot of art determines the theme (so type of work generally), then you need other works of art of that type, but from different artists to get the theming bonus.
