I can't install the patch!

the installation of complete edition went well though? does the game work? if yes - please start beyond the sword and post a screenshot of the about this build screen (click on advanced then on about this build).
Also: try installing the colonization patch (you can get it from the downloads database here as well) - does that work?
Edit: is there any other program running while you install the patch? e.g. an antivir program?

I'd certainly like to know what the about this build screen says - what makes you certain that it is 3.17?
are the folders in which the game is installed accessible (i.e. are you installing this on an administrator account? are they not set to read only?)
unfortunately without any error message this is not really possible to track down - it is an administrator account (very likely on XP - just checking)?
Apart from that unfortunately I don't know what else to check
Edit: did you contact Take2's tech support yet? it might be worth a shot... This is a cd/dvd version, right?

if it was patched to 3.17 (they screwed up the version-numbering inbetween) - so this sounds like 3.13 (3.13 would say version 313 and build 3.0.0.1).

3.19 should be enough - and the way you describe it you are at 3.17 anyway - if you want to make sure post a screenshot (open the screen you want to take a shot of - then hit prnt or prntscrn - close the game the screenschot should be saved in my games\beyond the sword\screenshots - if not: open any image editor and click on edit then on paste and then save the image and post it here as a file attachment).

you can download it to anywhere you like - it is a zip file which needs to be unpacked (again to anywhere you like - and then the .exe file that is included needs to run (double click on it) - it should then do everything by itself.

I think I figured out why it didn't work (I accidentally started a new thread, thought this one expired), see I think I know why the patch crashed
I have the same problem here. I've got civ complete beyond the sword 3.17 .I ran the installer as a administor and I'm running it on Vista.I have got it installed on c drive and I I'm on the unpatched release version.I'm really anoyed with this as I can't play ROS TtA and Tom war
is the game running fine as is?
