Anyone else hates this bastard as much as I do? I don't get how to handle him on emperor and above. The last couple of games (3-4 days each) I had him on, and my entire existence on both games was based on dealing with him. If I had him close at the start....I could deal with it, but if you happen to have him away by the time you meet him he has already cleaned his entire continent (2-4) other civs. Either as vassals or conquered.

Worst part is, diplomacy is impossible with this sucker. I mean I've handle toku and alex on immortal, so it's not an issue of agressive leaders, this bastard is unique!!!

Today, after a 4 day game, I was waiting for my 3rth city to hit legendary, literally 5 turns after the other 2 hit, was a work of art. And montezuma, who I had 4 wars already, (he attacked of course all of them) was finally at please, PLEASED, freaking PLEASED! and he decided one last attack 4 turns away of victory.

I gave up, I mean I screwed up my relation with pretty much every other leader and was barely keeping them pleased just to keep this sucker at cautious, it doesn't mather, he would attack you anyways as his meantime show while he vassals the rest of the world. The game before that was going for diplo/dominance, was going good I just couldn't deal with him. No mather how much I tried to keep my power up, he always had a good chunk above, WHILE having the rest of the world as vassals, WHILE leading tech by good 3-4, WHILE having constant mobilization and war.....its impossible....

Btw, I couldn't even go back to a saved game, he attacked with 4 full transports of artillery and infatery. I was running around with riflemen, some not even all of my defenses, not even going back 500 years I could prepare for that type of attack.

Him and shaka gotta be the most irritating leaders of all time.

At least half of the leaders declare at Pleased. But then again, you should know this already, if you're at the level you claim to be.

That's why I try to kill them ASAP or get as many AI civs on my side to contain them before they become too powerful

>>4 full transports of artillery and infatery
That's 16units only.... I'd expect to complain he got the police state event and you saw a stack of 80+ march units but 16 units it's no room to complain.
Improve your game, "pleased" is no area to feel safe.

Yeh I am suprised you call 16 units a huge stack specialy at empeor level I have had the ai send in stacks of 100+ units on monarch.

Since I'm only playing the Rhye's and Fall of Civilization mod/scenario these days, I can report that Montezuma is a lapdog when put in his historical context. He's the whipping boy of the Old World Civs and is practically begging for you to vassalize him.

I've never seen him with any kind of an Pan American Empire, or anything like that. (The scenario is also set up so that he doesn't spread to the entire North American continent, because of a concept called Stability. He can barely cope with the frequent Native Dogsoldier attacks.) Or seen a Aztec unit outside of the New World.

This post is full of... questionable info...
The most questionable is how were you at legendary culture levels but still defending with riflemen? And MONTEZUMA was more tech advanced than you? I mean, seriously...

montezuma is mostly kind to me. i rarely see him try to attack me. maybe he realized just how dangerous i can be and dosnt dare attack me.

There's a reason why Montezuma does not have late music. :p

Stack size depends much more on game speed than difficulty level.

Unless you start right next to him, you ought to have a tech lead on Monty on any difficulty other than deity. And if you start next to him, he is fairly easy to rush or cripple with worker stealing. He was irritating to me when I first started playing, but nowadays I actually like seeing him. He is never a serious threat in the late game, and it is fairly simple to convince him to attack other people early on.

I always try to make the AI Civs be at "Pleased" with me. When that happnes, I know that none of the civs try to attack me, or then if they do, they die without a word.

He's not much of a techer...in fact he's not much of anything other than a unit-spammer. Just keep your cities defended in the early game so he can't do much damage, then overtake him in tech and destroy him middle- or late-game.

Easier said than done, obviously, but I haven't had any particular problems with Monty.

Just make it to longbows and he's pretty screwed. He's always in last place in my games and is only annoying early on. If he starts close to me I let him sign his own death warrant.

I was kinda surprised when he showed up with a couple of war elephants in my game, but he was pretty easy to off with guns.

Montezuma sucks in all my games. I believe it's because he goes to war so much and gets beaten, In my latest game he was left with one city.
