Ive only played maybe 5 games on Civ3 but I seem to get the same old AI Civ opponents when selecting random.

I nearly always get Americans,Zulu and Aztecs playing against me, so why is it called Random Civs or have I been just unlucky ?

Cheers

The allocation is sort of random - what you will find is that you get a random group of civs rather than a real mix - so you if you get Zulu nearby then its a good bet that aztecs / perisa are also close by.

You may instead get Germany/Russia/England or Rome/Egypt/Greece .

The civs are grouped by type eg asian/mid east/european - its this grouping you get that is random rather than the civs themselves, or at least that is how it appears.

No doubt I will get corrected if I am wrong........

Yes, the AI civs are grouped via culture... if you want more variation it's best to turn cultural linked starts off... you should notice the difference right away.

just play huge map, with all random. youll have a good chance of getting zulu as friendly neughbur :-)

Uncheck "cultural linked start." Though it will not effect the civs in the game, it will effect those you are neighboring, which will change the flavor of the game dramatically.
