I hate Gandhi

I started on a continent with just Norway, while Gandhi was on another continent. Norway moved their army to my border about 2000 BC. I preemptively attacked, destroyed his army, and captured Nidaros, wiping them out.

Fast forward THREE THOUSAND years into the future. I meet Gandhi for the first time, the only civ I had met besides Norway. He immediately denounces me as a 'warmonger.' WTH?

Well he's about ready to find out what a REAL warmonger is...

Yeah, the ability for civilizations that you haven't met to know things magically is disappointing. I always thought that relationship numbers shouldn't start until you meet them and they shouldn't be aware of anything happening to civilizations they haven't met yet.

Even if Ghandi knew the Norwegians existed, and he didn't, the fact I hadn't fought a war in 3k years would pretty much make me NOT a 'warmonger.'

Same here - this is actually my favorite strategy on Continent maps.

My guess is that in OP's game Gandhi already knew Norway, so the very fact of a known civ being conquered triggered his agenda. I mean, technically he DOES know the player the moment Norway's capital changed the colors.

That's probably the case, Norway has longboats and can cross ocean tiles early, so it wouldn't be a stretch for them to have explored.

No, that is not the case. Norway had not built a single boat. Nindaros was Harald's only city and didn't even have a city radius on the coast yet.

And all civs were unknown to me until I found Ghandi. The other civs on that continent, Japan and the Aztecs didn't accuse me of being a warmonger, just Ghandi.

Well that's a different topic of discussion. It seems that currently you early diplomacy modifiers can snowball out of control if not countered. So if Gandhi already saw you wiping out Norway without you discovering him, you essentially gave him 3000 years to accumulate those negative points. And I agree it's stupid.

I had no plans to attack anybody on the other continent, I was going for a culture/science victory. He ticked me off, and he will pay the price.

I agree. The turn after he denounced me he offered a trade deal. No chance THAT will happen!

I played a game last week where Gandhi declared a surprise war on me (despite his agenda saying he'll never declare a war if he gets warmonger points) and was then denounced by Norway....yeah Gandhi sucks
