Hello, I'm sorry if this is a tad aggressive, but the fact is that I'm more than a little bit pissed off. I have just gone through the entire <snip> stupid business necessary to attempt to run your <snip> game of the month, and it has turned my copy of Civ intro a gibbering <snip>idiot. Every single piece of text in the game is wrong. The opening screen does NOT offer the normal options, such as New game, Load Game, Load Scenario, or any of those comfortable, familiar choices. Instead, it has a collection of dates which seem to very roughly correspond to the old options.
When I have managed to find my way into the game itself, I discover that its turned into gibberish as well. Scientific development is now takes Take, rather than turns, the bottom corner of the screen does not provide me with information about the date. If I click on a square of terrain, the menu option Available comes up instead of Terrain Information. Basically, there is not a single menu which is recognisable as it once was.
The only thing which has changed is that I have attempted to install your stupid <snip> patches. I had installed the extra graphics without any adverse effect upon my game, but since installing the patches, it has been well nigh incomprehensible. I would therefore like some helpful suggestions about how I might turn my game back into the game it is supposed to be.
Cheers.

Moderator Action: Yog, you are welcome here and obviously you have a technical problem related to failure to keep you software updated properly to the version provided by the manufacturer. You seem to be in the UK and unfortunately the patch releases from Atari and Firaxis have been most screwed up there. These issues are essentially unrelated to the GOTM but I am sure someone will try to help you if your will choose a more productive approach.

Do not use explitives in messages and do not take an aggressive tone with people whom you would hope will help you solve a problem that relates to your personal entertainment experience.

I am tied up with other assignments today or I might have helped you inspite of the tone. Instead, I have to waste those precious few moments addressing the behavior issue and logging down the records of the behavior warning.

Hopefully all future messages will be nice and someone else will have a fe moments to lead you through the required UK patch sequence. -cracker

What patches?

Yog, I would try to help old sod but you have to give me a little more info. I'll admit the installation instructions are a bit thick, written by an engineer and all, but you are the one who threw the lady in the sewer so just calm down eh.

What patch or patches?

Civ3v1.29 and civ3ptwv1.14. Those patches. The one's it says you cant play Gotm without.

Oh, it firaxis patches your jiggering with. In that case I can't help you your buggered for sure.

If you can list your system specs and game version and what you have done in the particular order then you might go to the above addy and someone possibly could help. If I were you I would uninstalled Civ altogether, clean the registry, reinstall civ, then play the world, then patch to v1.21f.

Then I would start adding gotm stuff. I doubt your problem has to do with the gotm stuff, you might want to turn everything off in the background. I have several tsr programs that interfere with civ.

you can remove the patches by going to the control panel, then click on the add/remove programmes icon. The game patches will be listed there and you can delete them.

Do you have PTW ? possibly patching vanilla civ with the 1.14f patch may do weird and wonderful things. I,ve not come across anything like this but I do have a weird propensity for reading the read-mes that come with stuff. I admire your swash-buckling attitude to software installation sir.

Hiya. Thanks for your replies. Ive decided to just abort mission, and reinstall Civ and PTW in their original forms, and pass up on the opportunity to play your gotm. I'm scared of it now, and don't want to have to go through this whole business again. I suspect that I'll try and swash-buckle a tad less with software installation in future. It doesn't seem to have paid dividends.
Anyway, once again, cheers for your replies, and I am sorry if my irratiation induced profanity has offended everyone. (See Mr. Moderator, I have taken note.):o

I'm sorry to here that. The GoTM can be fun. Like you I am in the UK and still haven't been able to get a multiplayer game going yet. From what some of the Americans on this forum have said the 1.21f patch ain't going to solve my problems. I find that the GoTM is the best fun you can have while playing single player.
We've all had brain farts with particularly bits of software. My Waterloo came with Medieval Total War. Stick with it.:)

Yog, I am using Civ v1.29f and do not be afraid to try again GOTM. Is is fun :D
I have to admit that downloading / installing is a bit cumbersome. Plus once installed, you are stuck to play GOTM (especially with the new resources.pcx) and it requires a bit of work to switch back to normal civ.
But if you read the readme files and do the install step by step you should be able to do it as I did (I do not see me as very clever on this matter).
But as stated above, it is important to understand what version you are running and what patches were installed.
Keep enjoying the game if not GOTM :goodjob:
