I just can`t seem to follow strategies. Help!

Thanks again, guys. That really helped me out. Also, I don`t know if this is normal, but yesterday I tried prince instead of noble, and guess what - I suddenly started to micromanage things. I realised that the wonders are no longer mine and I`m not able to lead the score that easily. That was extremely fun compared to my noble games, and I somehow concentrated really hard. A pity though, that I`m not able to do it on lower difficulties because, apparently, there is no competition. Thanks again for the tips, I`ll try to remember that.

I`ll keep generating that Latvian input here.

Civ can seem very overwhelming, because there are so many rules/criteria
to remember. Here are my few tips on city specialization ...

Look at the land around your city.
The skill you want to strengthen is your ability to see what the land
will give you. After doing this several times, it will be easier each time.

-- lots of hills means lots of hammers.
Have your workers build mines, and build a barracks in the city.
Pump out military units, and perhaps build a forge and courthouse.
Probably does not need a market or library.

-- fresh water means you can farm, and build some specialists
Build a library, and not a barracks. After the city grows to a moderate size,
go into the city view and move people around to maximize science, with
some scientists. Build a courthouse to cut down on the maintenance costs.

-- seashore will mean lighthouse and harbor. If there are enough
hammer-rich tiles nearby, then build boats. If not, build a library, have
your citizens work the sea, and crank out commerce/science. No barracks.

I've probably over-simplified, since there are always exceptions, but you
get the idea.
