I had a few puppy love relationships, so I'll start with my first high school relationship.
One of my old friends from elementary school whom had moved 40 miles away threw parties occasionally to which I was always invited (they had a huge house). At one of these parties, I met a girl named Lara.
Lara has brown hair, blue eyes, and a spare freckle on her cheecks, and was in great shape
. She was a little plain in her looks I suppose, but was a great story-teller (as am I
). The entire night we hung together and told our funny stories. At the end of the night, I asked for her phone number, which she wrote down on one of the party napkins in orange highlighter.
As she lived so far away, we talked on the phone for a few hours at a time for about a week, got along great. Eventually I asked her out, and despite her being extremely busy, she said "if I can ever get some free time, I'd love to."
Our first date was one with my friend who held the parties. My mother, with her habitual lateness, ended up making me 40 minutes late
. After a scuffle with my friend, we left for Burger King, skipping the originally planned Mexican dinner, which was probably just as well considering my infamously bad digestive system.
Seeing Serendipity, we finished the night with a kiss. Unfortunately, this would be our only date, because of the long-distance and a two-week trip to Florida by me. Also, after a week of time where my uncle died, and we didn't talk as much.
When I called her a month and a half after our date, to plan our next date, I left a message on her machine. She called back, saying that she didn't want to go out anymore because she "didn't want a boyfriend right now." I knew it was utter nonsense, considering how long we'd been going out, but let her have her spineless ways. I didn't get particularly upset as we hadn't ended up that close, but I had loved her, just the same.
RIP
