I enjoy playing online but there's nothing quite the same as head-to-head. Played in a G-10 tourney last night & it was a blast. Was hoping to go 6-0 but went 5-1. Still, I beat my nemesis (the 2009 club champ) so I was happy (he won all his other games & I lost one other one so we split the prize).

I've gotten alot better at speed though I still am not crazy about it.

Hopefully I'll have a chance to play OTB with some of you someday. Probably with Tenna is my best shot in the near future. Maybe at next year's Central Park &/or Bryant Park free NYC tournaments.

I like it as well, as you have to analyze on the fly It's a great training exercise for online play.

I used to LOVE the vitality and authenticity of OTB; there's no room for self-deception or excuses (no way to say "Oh, he probably was referring to an openings manual or using a computer"). For me, in many ways, that's "real chess"- online play is too subject to doubt. Though the shear convenience of online play makes it just about the only chess I play now.

I miss the old chess clubs I used to go to: if you're going regularly to a club and getting decent competition, I envy you: all those annoying characters and anti-social misfits - you're going to miss 'em when you stop going. My sometime best friend Steve and I used to argue and :):):):):) about each other's analysis but I believe I learned more from the candidate masters and A players then I did from my chess books.

I hardly play any OTB chess. No club around makes for a big difference in partners. Would help if I could find a free place to have the club meetings at, but so far no luck. :(

I hate OTB chess, it takes too long.
Compared to correspondence chess? :crazyeye:

I like G-60 with a 5 second delay myself. I can handle G-30 but it doesn't feel like "real chess". Gotta have the time delay or the endgames feel too "blitzy".

Up to 1844 (Live not Published) USCF now. :)

We've just got a new member of staff who is an ex-national champion!
I'll see if i can recruit him.
