I know some people here use/have used AVGFree antivirus, and I would be super dooper surprised if they are still satisfied/haven't had serious issues with it. That said, I need to get rid of it from my computer. I've tried uninstalling it through control panel, never works.

How do I get rid of this piece of crap? Any serious, step-by-step suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

I think you need to go into the Task Manager and kill the processes related to it first.

RevoUninstaller. There's a free version out there.

And I've never had a problem getting it off of a system.

What's your OS?

If it's XP, go into the Control Panel to remove programs.

That doesn't work on a program that has processes running. And firewalls and anti-virus programs always load on startup. And AVG can't be turned off within the program.

I swear, some "anti-virus" software are worse than viruses themselves, and even harder to remove. Same with "firewalls" - the number of legitimate services it stops is worse than any DoS attack.

Part of the uninstall procedure should be to stop any services running and terminate any programs in memory.

I'm curious if you someone didn't download a spoofed version.

It's probably just poorly written. (although I have never uninstalled AVG so can't talk from experience)

It could EDIT: Different now than when I uninstalled it a couple of years ago.

In XP you can turn off the walls, AV through the windows security manager.

Well I just uninstalled AVG and it did it quickly, quietly, and without fuss. Took about 5 minutes.

I recently had AVG on my computer, had problems with it, and uninstalled it without trouble. I also remember being able to temporarily turn it off from within the program. I forgot how exactly (sorry) but you may be able to uninstall it after turning it off.

Adding my recommendation to Revo Uninstaller, too.

It runs the program's own uninstaller, then goes through the registry and filesystem looking for things that were left. Because of that, if the built-in unistaller wants to reboot to finish up, don't do it - let Revo finish the next couple of steps, then reboot.

I've had programs that left dozens of registry entries, files or folders on the system and Revo found and removed them.
