Hi guys,

I've been playing CIV IV BTS a lot and just gone back to it recently. Playing some emperor games so far. I realize I never used mods at all and think it could be a good way to make the game look different.

Not interested in scenarios, I like to run random maps
Not interested in changing the mechanics of the game (not sure if mods can do that tbh ...)

Interested in having a lot of new civilisations available

I've seen CIV Gold 5.0 as an option but I can't seem to find a link that works, the link from civfanatics is dead (the link is on this website : http://www.atomicgamer.com)

Do you have recommendations for modpacks ?

Also I've watched some games on Youtube and for some reasons, the streamer sees the number of turns remaining for unhappiness after whipping. Is that a mod as well ?

Thanks in advance for answering,

The civ4 engine is a bit unusual when it comes to access to mechanics and mod support. The game has a DLL file and the source code is available (the only game where I have seen that), meaning mods have the power to alter most mechanics. This allows huge changes like two maps like Master of Magic (though I don't think any mod actually does that), or in case of Medieval Conquest, adding technologies to Colonization where vanilla has none. The tradeoff is that only one mod can be loaded at once, meaning if you find two mods, which say adds a new civ each, you have to merge those yourself.

I'm not sure what to say about mods not changing game mechanics. My usual goal is the opposite: changing enough to make it a new game. If I want to play vanilla, I play vanilla.

Thanks for the reply,

I'll be more specific then with my question. Do you know where I can dowload a pack including many new civ ? BTS Gold 5.2 seems very appealing but can't find a way to get it. Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance

It looks to me like that one is dead. Atomic gamer, where the mod was hosted, has died and there has been no reupload since.

Thanks in advance for answering,

I think that the reason they see the number of turns remaining for unhappiness after whipping is because they are using the BUG Mod? Is that it? Because I see similar alerts when I use it.

Anyway, I think that you'd enjoy Rise of Mankind: A New Dawn. It introduces lots of new civs, if combined with its Mega Civ Pack. It also introduces mechanics such as Revolutions, and Barbarian cities that slowly transition into full civs.

If you're interested, I saw a download link for CIV Gold in the Download Links thread. http://sourceforge.net/p/civ4ccp/code/HEAD/tree/Beyond The Sword Library/
Download the whole CIV Gold Folder within the link, and just place it in your Mods folder.

My preferred "more content" mod is History Rewritten, which introduces lots of new civilizations as well as second UU and unique national wonders. It's pretty conservative on new mechanics, where the most notable additions are tenets (basically civics to customise your state religion), dissent (cities can declare independence leading to civil wars) and trading of shares for corporations. I also think it is one of the most polished mods out there, with consistent and good art and text/documentation for all aspects of the mod.

It also includes K-Mod, which is another standalone mod that improves the AI and various interface elements across the board. It's overall more challenging, with players noting it being comparable to one higher difficulty level, and many cheesy anti-AI tactics no longer being possible. I really recommend giving K-Mod a try. Even though it does not add new content to the mod its AI changes completely transform the entire game.
