And that's fine.

The beauty of this game is that for those who want to beat Deity by 1200 AD and max out every opportunity the challange is there. I am amazed at the detail some of you can go into about production rates and combat option. But the game also presents folks like me the simple joy of seeing your Battleships pound an enemy city. :D

I am a builder who sorta uses the " This seems like a nice spot for a city " approach. I never reload or restart, but then again I never win at King or above, so that's my 2 cents. The joy of this game is both for the game solvers and those of us just crusing along

:goodjob:

The beauty of this game is that everbody can play it at his or hers own style and difficulty. I am just a perfectionist who wants all tiles to be perfectly roaded and irrigated/mined. No city radius may overlap etc. And I know that's not to way to beat the game at king's level or above! :)

But he I'm civ'n so I'm liv'n!! :lol:

like DOOM said - different styles for different people - plus the added benefit of a site like this to see different approaches to the game and learn things which help.

Nice to see someone who appreciates the game as it is rather than the 'I can't win so the game is crap' attitude.

I must admit I also was good ole builder , who was fighting wars from time to time in the case he was attacked , I was sure this is my play-style forever . First I played on chieftain, then warlord , then regent . Skills were improving day by day ( thanks to this site :love: :love: ) . One day I tried to be mean , I thought I'm peacefull , you see . Friends , when adrenaline of furious fighting pumps in veins and your glorious troops claim tile after tile this game becomes beautifull , just try it other day .

I'm not good as if you refer to the playing level, but I win Warlord. Maybe I should try Regent. It is said it is the "middle" level of play, 'cause the AI gets somany bonuses on Monarch & above.

Just hoping to win Regent one day...

Exactly my point of view! :goodjob:

Play the chieftan difficulty and go one step up every new game. Learn from your mistakes. I admit sometimes I can't seem to find a way to win at a certain level, but then I stop playing for say a month and then those civ fibes are getting to me again and I just HAVE to play.

I played them all 1, 2 and 3 and I just :love: 'm all winning or losing!

You hit the nail on the head! The game is so awesome because you can take any style of play you want, modify it, change it, and the game is still different each time. :rolleyes:

Welcome to CFC, Nazgul and DOOM!:)

I agree, no matter how many times you play Civ III, your going to get something different every time. Also, you can play the game however you want to. You can be a war-mongerer(like me), a builder, or any other way you can think of playing.

Nazgul and Doom!, welcome to the wonderful world fo CFC! :goodjob:

I agree with you all: Civ 3 is a wonderful game, for so many reasons, including its ability to be enjoyed by any type of play style.

@superbeaverinc.

Interesting you should say that, because I am a mixture of both builder/warmongerer. In the early times, I am a builder, and after amassing enough troops for a decisive military campaign, I will conquer my nearest neighbor. Then I will build again for a while....rinse, lather, and repeat. Then again, my favorite victory type is 100K Cultural, and it's hard to achieve that with only a few cities.

@trumpeteer
I'm glad to see in your sig that you plan to buy C3C as soon as it's released. As a beta tester, I can tell you that October 28th won't come soon enough for you! You are going to love it!

I am sort of like that too. I start out peacefull and expand, build wonders, and build stuff, and maybe take out a civ if they are unfortunate enough to be stuck on a peninsula that sticks out of my territory and hasn't been discovered by the others. Then once I get to Cavalry, I go and invade 1 or 2 other civs. Then I after I get tanks, I go on an absolute warpath :tank:

Example:

EDIT: I can't get the image to work so I will post in a new post

This is a screenshot of the minimap at the end of a game. The yellow line represents my borders at the end of expansion. The red line is the territory of the isolated civ I killed(wasn't really isolated when I took it out), the light blue line is when I got Cavalry, and the dark blue line is when I got tanks. The irony of this game was that I actually got a diplomatic win.

Thanks for that interesting graphic. You really went to town once you got those tanks! On what level were you playing? I would imagine that your targets did not have infantry, as you cut through them like a knife! A diplomatic victory? Now, that is ironic! I'm usually afraid to call a vote, even though I'm generally very ethical in my games. I called a vote one time, certain that I would win due to the fact that the entire world was either polite or gracious towards me. I got burned! :confused: Since then, I've been "once bitten, twice shy" as far as diplomatic victories go.

To trumpeteer and JonathanValjean
Thanks for the welcome guys!! :thumbsup:
Little question for JonathanValjean besides the subject of the forum: Do you know when C3C will be released in Europe?

I agree with JonathanValjean and SuperBeaverInc. First build and expand your empire a bit and have discovered your surroundings. Then I start building troops and a lot of them. Take out one or two enemy empires near me and raze cities I don't want if they are 'ill' placed (e.g. overlaping). Next I start building up the conquered cities, so they have the same improvements as my own original cities.
During the 'rebuild the conquered empire' period I can build up my forces again for a new 'sweep' :mwaha:

I can't comment on the diplomatic victory, I usually don't play with that victory condition on. Most of the time that condition ends the game, when I'm not done yet conquering others! :lol:

Your not alone, I'm probably one of the *worst* civ players. I've been playing for three years on and off and I haven't managed to win a game yet (come extremely close before thoguh). Mind you it took me aaaaaaaages to find this web site.

I mainly play to relax and for most of the time that I've played I've mostly just experimented with the game instead of autualy trying any sort of true strategedy. Now that I've found this website I'm sure things are bound to improve (let hope so anyway)

~melanie :wavey: (being this is my first post after lurking for a week I thoguht I'd say hi )

@Zoom!
Although I can't give out any specific information about the game, I can tell you that Firaxis is really striving to have both the US and International versions released at the same time.

@MelanieMonkee
Welcome to CFC! You are going to learn so much from this site about the game! The first place to go for some great tips is here, the War Academy:

I was playing on Warlord, since I'm not that good at Civ III yet. And my targets did have infantry.(there was three civs in the dark blue area) But I had a magical thing called artillery stacks :D . I was afraid of diplo victory too, but all you need for a diplo win is a good rep and a few well placed bribes.

Oh, of course, artillery stacks! That brings back fond memories of the most enjoyable game I've ever played. It was on emperor level as the Egyptians, and the Germans had 9 parts completed for their spaceship, and the last component was in the oven. I attacked Germany, and prayed that he would abandon his plans for that last part. Thankfully, he did, and at one point, I had about 250 artillery and 1100 overall units! This was a major modern era military campaign, replete with Mech Infantry and Modern Armor which took on size 30+ cities. It was a marathon of a war, but I ended up victorious, totally assimilating the German lands, and eventually launching my own space ship. Just thought I would share my trip down memory lane with you! :goodjob:

As far as diplomatic wins go, in a casual game, I will occasionally attempt it, but really, I find the diplomatic win a little unfulfilling. Because of the degree of uncertainty in the vote, I never attempt to win diplomatically in competition games.
