Carracks can't use rivers. But you can use them to create overseas cities across the ocean, before you can get trade routes making them enormously expensive.
Vassals are off though so overseas maintenance isn't as bad as it usually is.
Yeah, but that sucks, as it ruins the production of the tile. We don't have a line of forts from the Atlantic to the Great Lakes. Yet ocean going ships can make the trip.
Which makes it a little risky that I'd be wasting my time. But the AI pretty much always goes for Buddhism. And then the civs only change to Poly after missing Budd. Not having played multi-player before, I didn't have a guess about whether 1 of you guys would do the same. But I like having one of the earliest religions. Because it happens in the capital, and not a second city, the money gain is to the capital. And I like the other gains from an early religion.
