Icon Confusion

I've been working on this for 2 days now and I'm stumped. I had Jay's Corsican mod installed along with my own and some really bizarre things would happen.

First off, we both followed Kael's guide to the letter so we ended up with icon files named the same.
I did notice a mistake I made in that instead of resizing the whole template with the icon, I just resized the icon and pasted it into the corresponding template.
I made my icon as a rectangular flag. It showed up overtop of the circles so I left it to edit the icons later.

The bizarre results:

On the Civilopedia screen for my civ, I got a square box with 4 icons in it.
With both mods activated, my icon showed up for both civs.
When I removed the Corsican mod, my icons wouldn't show at all. I just saw a black background.
When I removed my mod, the Corsican icons showed as normal and the scroll bar in the basic civ select window returned. My guess is that my badly-sized icons are causing the scroll bar to dissappear.

So my question is, can someone post a quick little, step-by-step turorial about how to create an icon?

Oh thanks dood! I know I've been a little needy, but I swear, once I get one working mod, the questions will stop (or at least be advanced enough for people to not be wasting their time to help me ;))

I looked in the tutorial section and couldn't find any. I guess I gotta take a course in how to use the advanced search function

Uhh, the first link has no thread in it :'(

Wewt! I fixed it!

It turns out that I did something wrong with the folders so they weren't activating. I named the Game Items folder "Game Items" but in the Actions tab, I knew I couldn't put the space in the path so I put "Game_Items" thinking that would work. But the more I thought about my problem, the more it sounded like the file wasn't being activated.

So the next step was to try to rename the folder in the solution. When I did so, I got a "Could not Find" error. So I wrote down the filepath the error window spat out and followed it. Sure enough, my IconAtlases file was there.

So I said "Eff This!" and copied my IconAtlases .xml to a Word doc and deleted the whole frikin thing. I made a new folder, making sure to name it properly, copied in my xml and repaired the Actions entry. BAM! I has Icons! BUUUUUUuuuuuUUUT, America had my Icons and everyone else (except for Genghis Khan...) had white circles!

So, back to the xml I go. That's when I realized that I had named my atlas the same as the in-game one. So, I just added an "_PRUSSIA" at the end and now everything is right as rain! /dance

Now if I can just figure out where my scroll bar went....
