Idea for Civ. Is this good or what? And how to contact the developers?

I don't want to disclose the idea (I probably will if you push me ^_^ ) but I would very much like to know if you know a way to contact the developers!

Don't expect direct answers, but we know for sure that they do read some of the posts on CFC.

(Hi guys, can we have the source code before the 3rd expansion, please ?)

There was a guy back during civ6 vanilla who suggested a way to tweak the monarchy government so it was more useful. A few months later his idea was put in basically verbatim. Maybe he was a dev testing the waters with an idea. Maybe it was the forum cartel. We will never know.

Don't worry, if you nag long enough they'll probably put your name on the box :P

Tell us your idea so we can discuss it. That's what this forum is for.

Alright, the idea is embedded below.

This is the message I tried to send to 2kgames:

I have a suggestion for future iterations of Civ which I think is both fun and a challenge for (you) the developers. Allow cities to develop specialities - for instance a city near other civilizations' cities can develop trade. That is get a trade bonus of some sort. Become a trade center. Another could be that a city with lots of forests and fresh water could get another bonus. Another might be that a city which has built a lot of military units gets a bonus to the build speed of future units.

That sounds like a great idea. I like it. Thanks for sharing. I would suggest maybe allowing the player to pick a specialty directly in the city screen.

But I don't think a message to 2K games will work. 2K is just the publisher, meaning they are just in charge of distributing the games. They are not involved in designing the game at all. If you want your idea to make it into a future civ game, I would suggest promoting your idea here on this forum (the devs do watch these forums and will sometimes implement ideas that are very popular with the fan base) and try to sharing your ideas with Sarah or the devs on Twitter.

I would disagree considering 2K has their own forums dedicated to Civ VI including support + bug reports (These are linked to on the official FXS Civ VI page.). There's also a dedicated form to submit reports to 2K. Best advice is to post ideas here, the r/civ subreddit, & on the 2K forums. It also wouldn't hurt to do as the OP and send a note to 2K or post either publicly or dm to FXS's Civilization Twitter + FB accounts.

It seems to me like everything but CFC is a nightmare to navigate.

Especially when you don't want to watch Civ VI "spoilers". I haven't played V or VI and don't want to watch game material...

Have you been to the 2K forums? They are a ghost town.
Many times. Just because there isn't much community activity there doesn't mean it's not monitored by 2K/FXS, it's their "official" forum after all. I've posted bug reports there in the past that have been addressed, so...

I forgot one other communication avenue would be the Civ VI discussion forum on Steam. I've found the key to getting your comments noticed is by submitting them via multiple methods.

Specializing Cities is a common strategy in Civ4. Here is an article about the subject.

In your opinion then, what is the most effective way to report bugs? I mean, so the reports really reach Firaxis.

As I mentioned above, it's not a bad idea to use multiple avenues to report bugs (forums, social media, etc.), however the BEST single way according to 2K is the following:

Hey all. As a heads up, if you're having any issues with Civilization VI or run into a bug, please contact 2K Support. Although we will be monitoring our Steam and 2K Forums, and our social media accounts, the best way to get an issue resolved is to let 2K Support know.

Please contact 2K Support at the link below.

Thanks again, and enjoy playing Civilization VI!

Ok that sounds interesting. It is a long article. I don't feel like reading it all since I prefer to experiment myself.

I know you can dedicate cities to certain productions (shields, food, trade or whatever). What I was thinking was to get a bonus. A kind of reward and also an exciting possibility for your cities. There could be many (10+) different rewards. Preferably something outside of the control of the player. At least so much outside of the control of the player that it will take a lot of time to have an understanding of when and why you would get this bonus!

What do you think about that? :-)

Maybe cities could have "promotion trees" like units get. When your cities do certain things, they get points that the player could spend to make the city better at something. For example, a coastal city with a harbor could get a promotion that makes it better at producing naval units or makes it better at seagoing trade units?

Both things could be doable: promotion trees for cities and bonuses for some cities.

I was thinking about bonuses or "promotions" that don't deal only with production: forests and fresh water could make building the hanging gardens cheaper or could grant more happiness in the city; a city near borders or several borders could get a trade bonus. There is probably plenty more. The developers over at Sid's could develop this as they see fit.

One thing I like about the way I first planned it is that it is out of the player's control and adds a bit of mystery. What will I get and how will I get it? Something to learn gradually? Or just play along and take what comes. It will add another dimension to the cities.

:D

EDIT: more ideas:
If there is a lot of jungle in your territory, then maybe late in game you could get money (from the UN?) for conservation of rain forest.

Maybe the city with horses the closest would get a horseback-units build boost.

This idea is similar to what a lot of people have said about dynamic unique units for several years. It's a decent enough idea, but I'm not sure they'll implement it, since they seem to be going in the direction of making each civilization and leader different from each other.

Can you say a little about making civilizations different from each other? I am intrigued! Or point me to some information about it?

I have played neither V or VI so I don't know anything about the changes in them.

One of the things I thought of was that my idea demanded quite a bit on the part of the programmers. Which should be a good thing.

Have you heard anything about vr?

There is a ton of things that could be done in a new iteration so they have to be smart about it! :-)
