Idea: Historical Spawn Dates

I love this mod, but I think that the irregular way in which civs spawn is a bit too random. It would be more historically accurate, I think, if each civ always spawned at the same date, like, say, 753 BC for Rome (the traditional foundation date), or 843 AD for Germany (that’s the date of the Verdun treaty, when something like Germany emerged as the eastern portion of the Carolingian empire.) The same idea, of course, could be applied to Rhye’s and Fall RAND. What do you people think?

I’m sorry if I sound like I’m patronizing, but I am afraid that you are missing the whole point of RFC. RFC is all about ‘what-if’ scenarios: what if France had been an ancient super-power? What if had appeared later than it actually did? Or what if it had never existed at all? RFC allows to recreate such contrary-to-fact scenarios, and this is the real beauty of the mod.

That would require a substantial change of code, it’s too much Phyton work. Rhye is busy with other projects and will implement no major changes.

That’s a terrible idea. Each game is unpredictable and unique. Your proposal would force every single game to develop in exactly the same way. No way!

The OP's idea is a nice one if you’re a history buff, but it’s too exploitable IMHO. If you already knew where and when civs are going to spawn, then you could squat in those spawn areas before they even got a chance to appear. Personally, I prefer playability over historical realism.

What the...? Is this some kind of mass trolling?

This thread should probably be locked.

ROFLMAO :D

A debate over nothing... bizarre...

I think it is mocking many in the RFC community tbh. I've seen some good (but much more bad) suggestions before get put down in the same manner.

What a waste of our time. Why should he register multiple accounts just to do this pantomime? Is Fluke Bit a friend of Berlusconi?

I have to give it to him though: he hit on the major points of all the last zillion posts:

--Somebody has an idea that's new or not
--somebody knocks it down:
a.too deterministic
b. missing the point of RFC
c. code too hard to change
d. each game is unique
e. exploits and squats
f. Rhye's finality on everything

LOL! Initially I didn't get it, but then it made me laugh. All this sounds strangely familiar. It reminds me of a couple of years ago, when I proposed something similar to dynamic civ names. At the time it wasn't a feature, and there had been no previous talk of introducing it. But some people immediately put my suggestion down, reacting with the same clichés ("It can't be done", "Rhye will never do that", blahdy blah) that are mocked (?) in this thread. :)
