Ideal system to play civ 4.

Okies Warlords installed with no issues on Windows vista premium. Im not sure what the big outcry was about the new system beyond the resource hogging.

Loaded a huge map. No slowdown and game now seems to run smoothly. Game on :D

I get an employee discount at Dell because my company buys PCs, laptops and servers exclusively from Dell. So, I went for overkill. I got this system about a year ago, I think.

Dimension XPS 600, Intel Pentium D 820 (2.8 GHz) w/Dual Core
2GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533 MHz
Dual 256MB Nvidia GeForce 6800 graphics cards
Serial ATA Raid 0, dual 80GB drives
Surround Sound speakers with subwoofer
20in wide aspect digital flat panel display

You don't need all that to play Civ, but what the heck.

My workplace does the same with Dell but its a mail in post rebate. problem is order was not made in my name. They may refuse the discount if they are already at cost. If i had spent £800 online i could of used a 5% off voucher. Could of also used my 5% cashback too from quidco. Not sure it would of been cheaper than what i bartered over phone. Sometimes Quico cashback is refused if you already used a promotion anyway.

Its 30-40 quid saving. If you have a 775 motherboard i would be upgrading that pentium D. The e6600 CPU is good to go and would beat it into the ground. The old pentium chips were a pain. Not sure if xps 600 is laptop or desktop. Would be harder to upgrade a laptop. For the performance jump swapping cpu could be a huge jump in system performance.
