Ideas for Automatic Document Generator utility

Another update... thanks to some invaluable testing and feedback (special thanks to Ambiorix and RufRydyr :goodjob: ), I went back to the drawing board to speed up the main loop. The first beta showed a performance issue during it's EOT (End of Turn) phase - where it does most of the data change comparisons and actual logging.

Thanks to beta testers, I didn't get to far down the wrong path! :D

I restructured the way PTL stores data and (hopefully) optimized the loop. I'm finishing the changes and will be delivering them another beta version for testing. Thanks again for your patience - we're working on getting you a quality utility!

I've been trying to keep a timeline for QSC21. It's the first time that I try this and to be honest, if I wasn't very stubborn I would have dropped it already. It just takes to much time (now it's my first time, so I could assume it gets a little bit better with doing it, but still) and I'm pressed for time as it is.

I've been following this thread and I'm awed by your skill and dedication SpiderZord! This utility is probably the only thing that's gonna convince me to try going for QSC again!

Just wanted to get this out in the open, because my awed silence isn't gonna have much impact! :lol:

Great work, SpiderZord!!!!

Hi Mudfoot
I have used PTL v1.1 for this months QSC. PTL v1.1 doesn't have a logging feature so I have been using it in conjunction with a key logger in the background-skin 2000 downloadable from voodoo files. Beats the hell out of alt tabbing to a spread sheet every turn. I cant wait for Spiderzord to release his full version as the skin log still needs to be tidied up before its submitted and you have to remember to type in the dates in PTL or you end up with a stream of consciousness in the log with no dates which I did last month:wallbash:

This is an awesome idea and an amazing amount of personal sacrifice for the good of the community. I can't understand half of what you talk about here, but its heartwarming nonetheless! Thanks, in advance, for this utility.

:worship:

Hiya Spiderzord !

You haven't got a new beta for us to test, by chance ?
Just asking - you've come so far already, keep going ! :thumbsup:

@Ambiorix
Sorry - I dropped off the map!

I had family staying with us from Colorado for 3 weeks and they just left yesterday. Their stay was great, but it totally distrupted my PTL programming.

I'll get a new version out as soon as I can... :)

Just another thought on the ini-file that contains the different parameters for calculating the QSC-score : isn't that actually a spoiler ? The tech-values are different in each gotm. Don't know exactly how they are calculated, but maybe they give indications on landmass or opponents ?

Just curious if anything is still in the works to streamline timeline creation.

Now that I've got a little more time to spend with CivIII, I hate to "waste" it on drudgery... rather just have fun playing the game.

I wonder if SpiderZord et. al. are moving ahead with the project, or if it is caught up in Civilization Fanatics red tape?

@Iver-P

Yes - PTL is still in the works. Family/Job have been max for a while. Also had to locate the new offsets for the 1.27f patch (BTW, is GOTM planning to move to 1.27? - I haven't checked in lately...)

'fraid it's already happened :( The latest tournament game (5.4?) was permitted to be played on 1.27, and now the current gotm #23 also.

Good news :D

Sorry for the lack of status - September disappeared on me... I am still working on PTL, but I spent the month of September closing the family business (my job for the last 8 years) and finding new employment. Add the fact that I have 3 boys all playing soccer (~ 5 games/weekend), I'm left with little programming time.

I was in the middle of changing the PTL engine to speed it up... hopefully I when things slow down I can jump back into it. :crazyeye:

Thank you for the update. Looking forward to it when you get it done.

Any updates on this program?

This idea has come a long way from it's initial concept at the end of January! Sorry about disappearing folks; I had a bad car accident shortly after I posted (see post #12 way back on Feb 2!), followed by another in June, followed by another July 3rd! I've just now recovered enough financially to be able to spend time playing games. I'd hoped we'd have a working version by now, but I may end up just using a spreadsheet for now. Can't wait for the QSC to start in two days. Pity I can't seem to find the more recent QSC timelines. Hopefully the scoring bugs will soon be worked out, or the timelines could at least be posted.

Is this project still alive?
Almost a year after Spiderzord's last post? I don't recommend holding your breath :D

I've decided the things I need to trac k are not the detailed unit moves and stuff, but the decisions - why I did it, not what I did. No automation is going to help with that.
